Slappers in France - June 2016

We're looking to head to France from 2nd to the 7th of June,

Nothing is set in stone yet but the rough plan is to sail across to Cherbourg do the Normandy Beaches, then head south probably along the coast towards La Rochelle then swing across to meet up with Cookiemonster near Civray then swing back up towards home.

The final route will be decided later on. I'm looking to see if anyone is interested.

It's going to be a very laid back and leisurely tour. I'll be doing it on the SX. For instance if we find somewhere we like we could well stop off there rather than go on to an intended destination.

So shout out if you're likely to want to come along.

Yep checked my diary all looks good to me so count me in, I won't say provisionally, but if something work related gets thrown at me I would have to bail as being new I can't really refuse. I don't think it will happen but just saying now. I know at some point I am likely to head out to the factories in Spain but I don't know when. Looking forward to getting out for a euro Jaunt.

I really want to but I have a holiday planned March, April, May and July. I really can't afford anything more through that time now I think not would tip me over the edge!!. Then off away in Sept too. This is what living with a girl does to you...spends your entire holiday budget as soon as it becomes available!

Portsmouth to Cherbourg seems the best route. 3 hours sailing.

9 am leave on the Thursday morning and sail back 5pm on the following Tuesday. That's coming up as £118 with Brittany Ferries.

It's a good route, way way easier than all the Calais crap going on and good value as it gets you right up on the war beaches. The boat is reasonable, we use it all the time.

We will look to come up to meet you en France, see what we can do. Castle Cookie is always open to visitors as part of the trip.

The over night ferries are a good option. Few beers, food, comfy bed and then breakfast. But the best bit is they land you in France between 8 and 9 in the morning which is just about perfect after a nice breakfast. Plus it either gives you an extra full day riding or saves you a night in a hotel

That's a good call, Monty but we would have to move fast.

The majority of cabins are already booked as its the D Day festivities that weekend and then the Euro Championships the next week.

Daft question but how do they make a 3 hour ferry trip into an over nighter?

Slower, bigger, different type of ferry?

There is a list of D day events going on in the area here.

Just a quick question, Is the Chunnel not an option it's about the same cost of not less?

Have fun in France.. I wouldn't be able to afford it but I'm already on a family holiday for 2 weeks at that time.

Make sure you compile a mash up video with all your best bits and take plenty of photographs :)

Oh.. have a few bevvys for me will ya? ;)

I think they do slow down. Tbh the seats are all right for one overnight. I don't bother with a cabin as they can be expensive, but they do do 4 berth which sharing the cost may help.

The overnight never seems very long if you sleep.

We looked at that, but given that we want to do Normandy, where people are travelling from, the routes from Calais to get to the West of France and the ongoing issues with the Channel Tunnel the ferry was the favoured option.

I looked into this week anyway just to see if I would be able to book the time off work anyway and I have already authorised one of my staff to have their holiday so I definitely wouldn't be able to come anyway!
Dam it I need a biking holiday aboard at some point!!

The only other option appears to be Poole or Portsmouth to St Malo if you want an overnight crossing but that's coming in around £195.
