Price wise don't forget to factor in a hotel in Portsmouth Wednesday night. Unless you're going to leave Brum at around 4/5am to get to the ferry at 8am.

The over night ferry does take a lot of the stress out of it, plus you're on the road in France by 9am fully breakfasted.

Have a look at the dates and prices then Monty, because I'm struggling to find anything suitable for an overnighter.

The only ones into Cherbourg sail in the morning and the ones to St Malo are £195. Double rooms for a Travelodge are £50 per room if you stay just outside Portsmouth. Cherbourg landing puts us in Normandy where we want to start. St Malo to Sainte-Mère-Église is 2 hours.

I'm open to the idea of an overnighter as it does make sense but I do need convincing.

I'll go with the flow.

St Malo has overnights, but yes price is going up to over 200 quid return depending on how many share a cabin.

Those times look ok and £74 seems reasonable.

Would you want to do an overnight back though?

Think the cabins cost about 50 quid and sleep 4, but not 100% on the cost. I've always booked them through Eurocamp and they get you a massive discount.

Just had a look and the Portsmouth / StMalo over night return with cabin for 4 would be £207 each

Personally I like to spend as much of my riding holidays riding and the rest drinking and eating.

I'm the same with Sking holidays, first on the lift in the morning last one down in the evening.

Anyway it's your holiday, enjoy.
