You will be fine Cav and arguably the better way of getting back on a bike in a controlled environment instead of heading straight back out on the roads where Muppet drivers are everywhere. Ebjoy the track just rememeber take it easy for the first few sessions to get the feel again, when you have, go crazy Image

Haha... I'll post some footage hopefully of me going crazy!

I'd love to learn a few things this trackday:
1: How to 'back it in' to a corner
2: How to effectively use the rear brake
3: Elbow down (rock)

Let us know how you get on with those 3 points. Fingers crossed you manage to learn all 3...elbow down would be class

A nice warm day off so i have changed the front pads on the GT and done a bit of cleaning under the engine.
Next will be setting up the new bluetooth headset for the helmet and then an evening ride to meet friends up at Squires and bed the pads in a bit.

Today I have changed my oil and filter and also cleaned up my calipers....

Ok well a bit of a story with the calipers. First one went without a hitch, nice clean calipers and pads. Second one i buggered up.

Basically 2 of my pistons are now stuck fully out.....and now at an angle. I bought a rewind tool a little while back purely for awkward pistons Just in case you couldn't quite move it with my fingers. Well as i realised 2 are fully out and I can't move them I thought I'd use my rewind tool, took off my reservoir cap off and in the tool goes....I've managed to get the pistons in at an angle now.

I can't move these 2 at all. I've ordered a new piston set and hopefully I can. Get s Mobile mechanic to pop over to fit it. I'll need to bleed the brakes but I'll be honest that's a PITA of a job and I hate it....I may jist ask the mechanic to do it.

I'm f'ed off now lol!!

You should be able to pop them back in by hand.....

Pictures may help us - new thread?

Sorry to say this but they shouldn't be in at an angle Rossgo.

Sounds like with good intentions once there were out and slightly cocked you have tried to force them in with your rewind tool when unfortunately they were not correctly orientated at 90 degree to the Caliper.

Hard to say without seeing them tbh, but reading your post this would seem a possible outcome.

If it is the case, you will need to pop them out, check for damage and address/replace accordingly before re inserting them correctly lined up.

Not sure that is the case, just a possible scenario after reading your post and if it is, it's easily done and hopefully easily un done with no damage.

Cheers fella. Well I've ordered a piston set anyway. If they are coming out then I'll replace them I won't reuse same seals etc. Defo should be able to do by hand as my first one was perfect. My own fault, got distracted while squeezing the brake and didn't stop. I held one side in my hand keeping them as good as in but the other side must of popped somewhere now can't get them back in!

I hate bleeding the brakes, think this will be a job for a mechanic. May see if a mobile one is available when parts arrive. Or may jist do it myself if I ask my dad to help me bleed them, I can't do it by myself to be honest!!

It not a bad angle but it's at an angle and stuck. It may become unstuck when bled, don't know been trying to oush back for ages but csnt do it with fluid inImage

The picture isn't much use sadly.

Pump the lever and pop the pistons all the way out. Check for twisted or damaged seals, damage to the pistons and also for any debris floating around inside the calipers. Go steady and avoid using tools on the pistons as they damage easily

Always put a piece of wood between the Pistons to prevent them coming all the way out.

Try the wood in between first but if it won't go in straight it's worth popping the pistons out to take a look inside and see if all is okay

Think ive checked all I can without popping the pistons out. So ill have to take them out. I'm reluctant to get a machnic to do it as its not a diffcult job but bleeding the brakes is blinking difficult!! I'll see what Friday holds and I'll see if i can get it done. Thanks for everyone's help

Keep the reservoir lid on and sealed. Also, keep as large a section of the brake hose as possible below the caliper (i.e. hold the caliper up). You want to avoid losing all fluid from the lines.

You can do it though, I have before now. Make sure you have something you can rest them on, too in case you need to get up and grab any other tools.

Be methodical and think it through as best possible - it seems worse than it actually is

Rossgo, is it worth doing your own DIY thread? Don't want you losing the replies amongst the general stuff posted in this one.
