Yep. The Kurds have been promised their own country for quite some time now, but the region got carved up back in the 20s and the Kurds were ignored.

Looks like the US troops pulled back as far as the local oil fiends.

Why am I not surprised?

Yed...but at the same time, if more problems arise you just know the oil fields will be at or near the centre of it all.
If they went to the towns & villages it'd just look like an occupation.....

Bit rich that your bloke trump clamoured to take the credit for the killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi shortly after he'd abandoned the Kurds, when it turns out it was a Kurdish agent who was responsible for finding him.?

Yes...I'm sure all the problems in that region just started. I'll bet it was a Garden Of Frickin' Eden up until Trump took office.

Not what was stated. the comment was Trump took credit for pulling a weed after the gardener he just fired found it.

Well....US Rangers raided Baghdadi's compound with instructions to take him dead or alive. During the course of the raid Baghdadi detonated an explosive vest he was wearing, taking his own life & the lives of the two children who were with him.
I'd be speculating, but I imagine he was using them as a human shield, hostages, etc.
Either way, he won't be taking any more lives.
And as for Trump...well, he's the Commander-In-Chief, & we all know he's none too shy about taking undue credit...that part I really don't care about too much.

And St Marks comment wasn't disputing anything you have mentioned in this post, so I still think your comment

Baghdadi might not be plotting to kill anymore but Trump's words mean there will be a queue of people wanting to take his place.

Killing him solves nothing and probably makes things worse in the long run.

& another singing from the same hymn sheet as above ^

If the USA & UK had spent as much on educating & infrastructure as they have on military action in those volatile areas of the world, things may be very different.

Christianity's sucess would indicate that martyrdom can be a pretty successful strategy though?

The followers martyrdom creates do though. An endless cycle of death and hatred.

And still, no-one has mentioned that at the end of the day, this man hid behind children, and committed suicide as a coward.
