Job Interview - Another one

Post by Itchy »

Seeing Perkles' thread got me thinking there must be something in the water.

Today, I went to a job interview myself.

Some of you know I'm in the RAF, my interview today was me applying for a position as an Instructor at RAF Cosford. This would see me teaching trainee Weapon Technicians the finer arts of our trade.

It's something I've wanted to do since I joined up, but you can't do it until you're an established NCO, so it's not been an option until now.

The interview was in various stages.

First was me delivering a ten minute presentation.
Nailed it.

Then an interview. With armament trade-related questions.
Which I should know.

I didn't.

I bumbled my way through the answers but knew I was cocking it up. We all did. But I held my hand up, apologised and explained it's been a long time since I've worked on that kit.

Next was a few questions on Equality and Diversity.
Managed to give the right answers for those.

And that's me in. I've been considered suitable for employment as an Instructor, so before too long I'll be responsible for shaping impressionable young minds!

So in addition to doing a job I've wanted to do since I joined up, I'm also getting to move closer to my wife's family.
Which just so happens to be right in the vicinity of quite a few Tankslap rideouts.

So I expect I'll see a lot more of you all in 2016.

Awesome Itchy!! Congrats mate.

I did some Tech Instructor duties while I was in, but just System Type courses on Sqn for guys new to the aircraft type.

Did Gas Testing and Confined Spaces training for the company I was with in Oz when working on the P3 Orion's.

And last year I finished off my own back the National Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Like you I've always been keen on teaching. I plan to try and get in to it full time as an exit strategy from Offshore when the time is right. I'm taking up BA training and System competency Assessment duties next year at work so that'll give me some more experience and time up in those duties.

Good luck with the move and settling in to the new job mate.

Do you have to do Instructor Training first? I know in our mob you had to do a 6 week Instructors course prior to teaching at the trade school. The stuff I did only required a week long Instructors Techniques course.
Happiness is not a destination. It is a way of life.

Lol, think Kwacky covered it there!

But yeah, it's only an hour and a half to Buxton as opposed to just over 3 hours like it is from here.

Itchy's leap here we come!

Cosford is a nice place. And right on the A41/M54. Very handy for mid and north Wales :)
