Neither. Get an LG.

Best black you'll get on a TV. It makes a world of difference.

What size you after?

If you only want a Sony or a Samsung then go for the Samsung.

Fwiw I met a friend of mine over the festive sason, who brought one of those flash curved screen Sony TVs about 3 months ago, and he was telling me he has had nothing but trouble with it from day one. ?

I got a panasonic 55" LED a few months ago, awesome bit of kit, got top of the class reviews, but as Kwacky said it doesn't have the blackest of blacks. and really surprised how effective the passive 3D is... but I was easily impressed as I was replacing a 8 yr old SD LG plasma.

(f1) for Samsung, really happy with ours. If you get a decent spec the picture is excellent.

I never actually use the 3D apart from trying it out when we got the TV, it was funny watching the kids chase flying cherrys around the room

You need a good black for good picture quality and definition. It's to do with backlighting and black colour reproduction.

I wouldn't worry about 3D. You won't use it.

I have 3 Samsungs...a 42" plasma, and two 32" LCD things.

The plasma has a great picture, but is prone to overheating...then the color goes. It's also about 3.5 tonnes....glad I don't have to lift that every day.

The LCDs are fine.....just a couple of $200 jobbies for the bedrooms.....I'm no expert.....I just want a TV that turns on.

I agree it's the blacks that are important for the contrast. I have an LG 50" plasma and it's really good. I think I'd go for led now as they seem to have caught up and are lighter and cheaper now, not that many new plasmas around.

These curved TVs are just a gimmick and impractical IMO. 3d is a waste too.

I always go for the ones that are 6 months older in design with not many smart tv features, the screens are the same as the high end ones but cost half the price.

I like lg, samsung and Panasonic, but I do think they are much of a muchness if you stick to the known brands. You should get one for wayyy less than £700 as as soon as you buy it it will be old tech as TVs seem to change weekly.

Worth looking at 4k if your going to keep it for a while but still relatively expensive...

Samsung have a good reputation in recent years but I'm old school brand loyal and always gone Panasonic or Sony. Quality of picture and build quality have always impressed me.

No-one has mentioned......what size rooms are these things intended for???......Just my own taste I guess, but I have a propensity for proportion.....had my plasma in the bedroom for a bit, and it looked wank....I dunno, I just don't like massive TVs.
