End of a personal era

The last of my grandparents passed away this evening. She had 3 of her 4 daughters by her bed. She went to sleep then called time. She made it to the ripe old age of 93 and saw grandchildren grow up and have kids of their own.

Sorry to hear that, Kwacky. Thoughts to all your family.

To make it to great grandmother status is something to be proud of and no mean achievement.

Sorry to hear this and thoughts are with all your family for your loss but also glad your grandmother lived such a rich life to share in so many family events across the generations.

Sorry to hear Kwacky, a good innings had all the same.

My last remaining gran died last year at the same age. I got the call the morning I was about to fly out to the platform for the first time, so I never got to funeral.

It's a weird feeling being bumped up the generation line.

V sad. A good innings mind!

I'd lost all my grandparents by the time I was 15. One if my regrets is not having longer with them :(

RIP lovely lady

Thanks everyone

I spoke with my mum who was with her, holding her hand when she went. No suffering, simply slipped away. That's the way to go.

I had that thought earlier on. My old man is the oldest in my immediate family. Weird.

That position has already fallen to me. It came to me one day that that is who/what I am now. Really strange as you say.

Very sad, may she rest in peace.....I'm not a religious person - I don't believe in God, but tonight I hope I'm wrong.

Mary, the ex.....her grandma died at 99.....at the time, she was living with her two older sisters!!.....that's some longevity for you!

Just think of the history Rich....I know you're keen on history....we study it, your grandma lived it....what a great life she must have led.

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother Rich. At the very least you can say that she lived a very full and long life, more than most of us can hope for. I sympathize with you as all my grandparents have also passed and, as KK stated, it's a sobering stage in our lives when that happens. My prayers and thoughts are with your Mom, you, and your family.

Thanks all.

On a lighter note, when she heard the news my wife had to send a text to someone at work. My mum normally has the kids after school on a Thursday but obviously she's not going to be up to.

So my wife needed to let work know she would have to leave at 3pm today.

She should have text "Richard's nan died this evening............."

She left out the word "nan"

Oops :D

Oh feck!!.....that is awesome!!....and something you will never forget...cherish it for what it is.

We buried me Mam on my 40th birthday...not much of a treat, but I do remember recalling a story to my Dad & family over dinner that was similar.....I won't say it, it's much too personal, but it had them all in tears...good tears.
I better stop.

They called straight away. They clocked a mistake had been made as the last thing my wife would be doing if I had pegged it was texting work.

She would be too busy getting the insurance documents out ;)
