Materials and engine components usually. I'm guessing it'll be tuned down from the 1000rr engine so won't need the same sort of high spec.

Extra strengthening of subframe etc for load carrying capacity.

I suppose your both right but it does seem a lot...

I think I'd still rather have the R and add panniers.

Wheels as well. They alter the weight depending on what's being used.

New Multi = 160hp + 100ftlbs
S1000XR = 160hp + 83ftlbs

I'd bet that the increase in torque is a lot more than 20% at lower RPMs as well
