Active commuters felt better able to concentrate and under less strain than when travelling by car, University of East Anglia (UEA) researchers said.

Even going by public transport was preferable to driving, data from 18,000 UK commuters over 10 years suggested.

Researchers said policies encouraging people to leave their cars at home could have a big impact on well-being.

Bugger all about those of us who decide to use our bikes into work.

i would love to pushbike it to work but the roads in brum are made for a car and far to dangerous,even on the motorbike with loads of oomph it is dodgy

Doesn't surprise me, I listened to an article about road rage on the radio whilst stuck in a jam 15yrs ago, the expert they had on made a lot of sense tbh, the anger and frustration rises dramatically if the journey you undertake doesn't match your expectations of it. In other words if you hear on the radio there's a traffic jam at X on the motorway, when you arrive at it, you experience resignation not necessarily anger and frustration.
It made a lot of sense and changed the way I thought about travelling modern roads.

So glad I was on the bike today. Parts of the M6 were shut. One mate was in his car for 4 hours to go 20 miles.

I imagine a few car drivers were angry today.

I work all over the UK and, at the drop of a hat, my plans can change, so I have no choice but to drive.
Even if I knew that I was going to be in London all day and not have to scoot somewhere else, there's no incentive to take public transport.
I can drive it for £85 return. That includes parking in London, congestion charge, fuel and the Severn Bridge toll.
A train is £150 return.....and I'dhave to sit next to some twat trying to read a broadsheet.

and they have such dramatic alterations too. I went to London for an event on the train, shopped around and our days train tickets were around £200 or so for two of us. I checked the prices a week later and we could have caught the same trains for about £30 each return.

You're not wrong. £178 I had to pay return to use a train that day from Coventry to London. I reckon it would have been cheaper in a taxi.

Is that why traffic was bad? It was bad last nigth and this morning. It's adding at least 5 mins to my journey time.
