Just on the coolant temp note from the other thread, my bike heats up very quickly. When I am doing around 30-40 the temp will rise until the fan kicks in. If I am stopped it will rise quickly to 102 and fan kicks in and it will stay at that temp for a short time but then will continue to rise. I have seen 110 before, is this normal cause it scares me a bit.

Daytonas run hot. It's a poor design for the airflow and the radiator.

If everything is working properly it should never go over 105.

Must have been something wrong with yours as well then. The only time mine has ever gone over 105 is when I had a leaky rad. Oh and he two times I didn't shut the bleed valve properly.

Alan check the fins on the rad are clear, try shining a torch from inside out through the rad.

Will give that a go Monty, should it heat up that quickly?

Can't remember exactly but think the stat is full open around 78c. So if your moving at a fair rate it shouldn't go much above that even on a hot day. If your stopped and there's no air flow over the rad it will go up to 105 fairly quickly and then back down to 100 when the fan comes on. Should never go above 105 even on a very hot day while stopped.

If it does it's most likely one of three things. The stat is fecked, there's not enough water in it or there's not enough air going over the rad.

I'd try cleaning your rad and making sure there is enough water in first. I jet wash mine very carefully from the inside out where you can get at it and then outside in where you can't. Be careful around the fan.

I've been doing that for the last 7 years (same bike) without any problems and my bike never goes over 105.

............. or the 650 has a bigger fan?

Didnt Tim have problems with his over heating and it turned out to be a faulty water pump ??

Not sure if it was a faulty water pump so much as a faulty water pump fitter

Hub's bike had an overheating problem that he never got to the bottom of though.

I'm wondering if the 650 has a different fan? Does yours ever go above 105C?

Same fan fitted to both.

I just checked as well, same part number for the Speed 4, TT, D600 and D650.

Alan and Chris, I would take the fan off and clean the rad fins out. To be honest it's not a big job to take the rad off an clean it properly.

I did mine a few years ago and while it was off sprayed it with exhaust paint

Also try wetter water. Not used it myself but is supposed to help rads run cooler.
