Did a session with a personal trainer today, half hour of HIIT. Totally buggered.

The trainer was a 29 yr old hottie, but jeez she punished me and I just kept trying to impress, feel like I've been steam rolled now! (lol)

HIIT is ace but it triggers my headaches, so I can't do more than a few minutes.

I tried something different at the gym yesterday and I'll be continuing with it for 2 weeks to see how it goes - Push and Pull.

Yesterday I did push which is basically chest and 2/3rds of the shoulders:
Incline bench close/neutral grip
Cables for central chest and outer lower for definition
Tricep dips
Shoulder width jumping/clapping press ups
Lateral raises with pause at the top
Shoulder barbell press behind and infront of the head
20kg plate lift with steering wheel-like motion to get a burn throughout front and medial delts
All of this followed by tricep workout with supersets then dropsets then 5second down/5 second up controlled exercises. I had to wait 15 minutes before I could drive home because I couldn't move my arms much haha.

I normally do Arnold Press too but forgot yesterday.

I hurt like crazy today which is refreshing, I guess I got too comfortable with my previous workout.

5 mile run tonight, and the best I've felt for months. My heart rate was maintainable and I managed to run the while 5 miles non stop.

Need to look at upping the weekly distance now.

Taekwondo. Last session of the year so he tried to kill us with some circuits mixed with kicking exercises.

Been to the gym to try out my new workout. Seems to have worked as I'm still sweating an hour later.

Tip of the day: don't go to the gym after a big lunch.

I feel sick.

8 mile run this morning, and I survived it.

Not overly fast, but it was mainly about the distance.

How did the joints hold up?

That's 90% of the battle exercising in your 40's.

It's not the fitness or motivation it's the body holding together (blush)

I've backed off the wieghts I'm lifting for that very reason. It's hard to lay down new muscle at my age anyway, so there is little point putting old joints under undue stress to try and get a bit bigger.
