That didn't go to plan. The tyre place can't get the rear wheel off. They gave it a good go. I then headed off to the local mv dealer but they couldn't do anything there and then. They didn't want to risk damaging the bike but even at 260lb buying was moving apart from the entire bike. They brought out a 6 for breaker bar and that started to bend.

It looks like the rear wheel has never been removed. The bike is over 4 years old. I'm worried that there might be some bonding going on.

Fair play to MV though, the torque setting and direction of the nut (it's left hand thread) are cast into the rear wheel.

So no new tyre for me.

The bike is booked in for a service at the end of August so I'll take the tyre with me then and let the dealer do it.

Next step is a good impact gun, shock it loose.

Yep had to use a impact gun on mine. It will come off in seconds with one, surprised the tyre guys didnt have one but the dealer hopefully will.

I have access to a 1000Nm impact gun if you want to head this way (y)

Cheers. I'll bear it in mind.

There's also a great tyre fitter by me that usually charges me £10 to a loose wheel - I think normal price is £15. If you were able to bring the tyre down I could take you to get it fitted etc and have a coffee (y)

Hopefully you can get it sorted anyway but it's an option

Thanks, much appreciated. I've paid for the tyre but I didn't fancy riding home in the rain with a tyre around me. One spare tyre is enough for this biker :D

Not his problem any more, seeing as he'll be giving the MV to Jane as a "nearest equivalent" replacement.

Seems only fair. He’s got 3 and Jane now has none. (giggle)

I thought it was the Storm 3D on your VFR? I had the Ultra Sport and didn't really like them, they don't like damp roads and cost me a couple of pairs of underwear. (puke)
