Doh!

Unfortunately I know that feeling oh too well. Glad you are Ok mate, and the crash protecting looks like it saved your engine cases well.

I would've thought your tyres would've been pretty warm by then? But I guess if track temp was low then it may have slowed the heat up.

I've tortured myself with that video repeatedly and still don't really know why I dropped it. I can remember at the time being surprised I was on the floor. I find the strange thing about crashing is at the time it feels like it goes on forever but actually just lasts seconds. I can remember sliding alomg rhe tarmac and then starting to tumble. I remember trying to keep my head up and then thinking "this is going to hurt" as my helmet smashed into the ground and then being surprised when it didn't! I'll probably buy another Shoei after that. It felt like I was sliding forever and at the time I would have sworn the engine was revving its tits off for ages which is why I've jumped up to switch it off. Then I watched it back and it was all over in a flash.
Unfortunately I almost certainly at the least contributed to the crash with my lax preparations. That was the third session and I'd checked my tyre pressures once in the morning cold and then forgotten about it.

I know what you mean, when I flipped the Daytona at the track I remember watching the front fold as it was skidding in the locked up front with the rear miles in the air, trying to tuck my arms in, but couldn't, flicking up onto my feet way to fast and head butting the Tarmac (budget helmet but still did the job) and then as I continued to tumble hearing the bike crunching behind me and hoping it didn't hit me. Probably 2-3 sec in total but felt like an eternity! I found out as I stripped the bike it was a collapsed wheel bearing that caused it.

What tyres were you on ? I had a similar crash at donnington on warm tyres in perfect conditions and it was just down to the tyre not having enough grip for the speed I was going.ive never used dunplops since

Thanks all. It was at Oulton on Saturday. I was using normal Supercorsas without tyre warmers. I'm absolutely fine, my gear really did do a great job of keeping me in one piece. I could feel my foot where the bike landed on me but apart from that I don't even have a bruise! The bike is at a mates at the moment so not really sure how it is! I couldnt get it started on the day so was a bit stuck but a complete stranger in the next pit garage handed me the keys to his van to drop it off at a mates. As I was leaving he told me to be careful as his wallet and phone were in the van! You really do meet some great people on a trackday. Hopefully going to get it home in the next couple of days and really hoping it starts!

Good luck Andy. Hope it starts and there is minimal damage. Never great news but at least you have all the original white plastics intact which was a very smart move to remove and safely store.

Just watched the video.. glad you're okay - you got up quick !!

Looks like a cold tyre folded after the slight crack in the tarmac.. Sucks really

That's very nice of the guy giving you his keys. Some people are very trusting I'm unsure if I would be the same!!

Next up Tuesday 9th August. Road bikes only. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing¿

What group do you normally go in? They frown upon Fast Group going to these from what I've heard...

I've not heard fast boys aren't welcome but its a bit more relaxed due to no tyre warmers etc
Its crap being on a road bike when everyone is overtaking you when you are trying to get your tyres up to temp
I think road bike only days are a good idea

I did silverstone without warmers and didn't really find it an issue to be honest.. up to full pace in 3 laps (would have been about 5 laps at Donny due to circuit length)

Fast boys are welcome but it's designed for the 'less experienced' riders or the riders that are Novice-Inters. I believe the groups are: Complete Beginner, Novice, Inters

They won't kick you off the track day but as you point out they're geared for those who aren't so track confident.

The groupings are slightly different to a normal day. There's novice, novice/Inters and inters/fast so I've gone in inters/fast. I need to slow down and work on my body positioning anyway rather than just heading out and trying to overtake everything in sight.
I'm hoping for chilled but I'm since wondering if it's just going to be full of people who never trackday and don't know where they're going.

There's a few fast guys off the performance bikes website that go on them and really enjoy it
I'm going to try and book one soon
