Is it the right to die that is the issue or the fact that it needs assistance to do it in a humane and dignified way?

I think there is also a fear of granting an individual the choice only for relatives to disagree, especially after the event. Could you imagine the Jeremy Kyle fueled law suits!

There also has to be an aspect of responsibility for the health care professionals. I'm sure not everyone would be comfortable with intentionally ending another's life.

Its a minefield of a subject with no right or wrong answers, just more questions.

Yes and No.

If you have died then there is obviously no come back on you but maybe if someone has helped you, then there is a come back on them IYSWIM.

Fair enough. But right now there exists, under the very worst circumstances, the ability for someone's nearest & dearest to have life support turned off.
So why not the person on life-support themselves?? The ability to do so already exists in a person's will/living will.

The legal arguments post death would be the same after a normal death wouldn't they?

The argument is effectively a change in the law to allow assisted suicide.

Subject was on the radio yesterday again as well, I agree with it and there should be a law in place to allow. As they say people are going off to other countries an doing this with some dignity.

As someone said yesterday, I want to be treated like an animal.... if a horse breaks a leg they shoot it, if a dog or a cat is so sick beyond help, it Is put down, with the owner by its side for a peaceful exit from this life.
Totally calm and peaceful, but humans are forced to carry on in pain, with no sign of actually living a life they have had, but just existing. I for one do not want to just exist so that others can feel good about themselves.

Yes this could be abused, that's why as Jack said, it needs to be worded very carefully, but it needs to go down this route, in my opinion.

Understandably so....a very demure young lady, that one.

Personally I think the right to die is fine. Kinda annoys me that we have the right to claiming back PPI but not the right to take ourselves out of serious life pain. Mixed up priorities.
