I’ve always liked what you’ve done with the 999 but man that Aprillia is just screaming to be ragged within an inch of its life!!

I had problem with fuel leaking out of the fuel cap, there was obviously something up with a breather pipe somewhere, I rang the dealer to tell them I wasn’t very happy about it but they have shut down for the lockdown.
Anyway I took off the fuel cap plus the part that attaches to the tank, checked all the seals which looked ok, gave it all a clean, checked for obvious blockages and put it all back together, I had to go into work today so went on the Dorsoduro to try it out, problem solved though I’m not exactly sure how, maybe dismantling it all just freed up a small blockage I couldn’t see ?
Anyway happy days and the bike is brilliant even though this is only the 2nd time on it.

Well today has been a good day.

Since i have had the 853 negine fitted the Ducati has never ticked over properly. It would always stall when running up to a junction.

Two Ducati dealers have tried to fix the problem and both could get it ticking over in the workshop but once on the road the stalling would return.

When cleaning up the garage last weekend i found the spare ECU which i assumed was the one that was on with the 748 engine as an ECU came with the 853 engine when i bought it and had a chip that had been tuned by CJS to match the specific engine. CJS are the top Ducati tuning specialists in the UK and their work doesn't come cheap.

Anyway, with not a lot to do i thought i would put this ECU on the bike and see what happened as its an easy changeover.

Started it up and low and behold it fired almost instantly and ticked over straight away, all through the warm up, revved it a bit and didn't stall once. Obviously until i run it on the raod again, i won't know for certain if the problem is solved but it certainly fired up, ticked over and revved much better than at any time since i have had the engine.

I'm assuming that for whatever reason, the ECU was never swapped over.

After that I decided to treat the Ducati to a lot of love and started a comprehensive polish and wax on the whole bike.

Is there a serial number on the ECU you could check or cross reference Duke to see which is which?

Maybe CJS will have it on their records?

No need really. I noticed the Eprom in the ECU is a bog standard Texas Instruments one that I guess is what CJS use as a starting point.

The issue with not ticking over is down to the ignition map rather than the fuelling map from my extensive Google searching. It's a problem with all 748R models as well from what I have read.

Can you nip out to the shops for essential supplies and give it a test (happy)

As much as i would love to take the bike out, I just don't feel comfortable about it whilst so many are putting their own lives on the line to save others and keep the Country from starving. And none of them are earning a lot to do so.

Totally agree Duke. I meant take the bike instead of the car next time your out for essential shopping or work. Couple of mile stop start riding might expose if the problem is fixed or not.

I could never replicate the fault on my zx10r in the garage or the Kawasaki workshop and it sounds similar to the issue your experiencing.

If it does continue I would suggest looking at the TPS next. Hope you get it sorted, shame to have issues on such a nice bike.

I was sorely tempted to go on the bike to work last week but I still decided against it.

There is a post on pistonheads about a group of bikers out last weekend and one had a serious accident which ended up with police cars and ambulances out. I'm sure they have better things to be doing at the moment.

Today I stripped and cleaned the front calipers out, and dropped the little lock screw from the brake reservoir into the bike... That's going to be fun to get back.

Also found a very fresh vertical scratch on the black nose section, ah well, it's not the end of the world. I will have to get an indoor bike cover I think.

EDIT.
Found the bolt, on top of the air intake under the tank, just as I was about to grab it a cat knocked my coffee over, we don't have a cat so it made me jump... Now the screw is under the airbox and I am on the beer (drunk)

Tomorrow, the side panels come off and I find it or order a new one... Might have a good clean under there to remove all the winter grime while I'm about it.

The Ducati is now as clean and shiny as it can be.

Will try and finish the Triumph tomorrow and Monday but it doesn't need a lot of cleaning in all honesty.
