Only a broken elbow

Post by T.C. »

One lucky rider. It could have been so much worse.

Also a good example of how a video cam can be beneficial. Certainly helps as far as getting an admittance of liability is concerned for the personal injury claim.

At 80 quid, I'm guessing that's his first conviction.
Bike seemed be moving at a reasonable clip.

"Arrrgh!!"....he wasn't even hurt yet!!

What a idoit. He didn't stop at the junction he just carried on. Poor rider, these are the times when helmet cams really are worth their weight in gold

If you watch the clip you will notice that the sun was behind the rider.

The rider may not have been clearly visible to the van driver because of what is called the Halo affect this affects the ability to judge speed and distance and is often made worse when a bike is displaying a dipped beam headlight.

I deal with a lot of crashes like this and it is not helped when the bike is displaying headlights either.

So whilst the driver does commit an offence, he may also have had mitigating circumstances. After all, nobody goes out to deliberatley have a crash, well most don't anyway.

I bet the van driver would have seen the biker if he'd have been clad head to toe in flouro hi-vis like those "people" in POLITE vests.

Not.

I blame the rider for going too slow. If he was on a tankslap ride out 4 bikes would have shot past that van before the driver started to turn right.
