Re: We are not alone
If the aliens are coming for us, I'll go the day I've had it can't be any worse and a being bummed by an alien would actually be an improvement

Re: We are not alone
Hmmmmm. I always think there is something else up there, we assume we are the dominant race in the whole of space but think about it, how can we be the only ones, if space is infinite then surely there's others.
Going onto another point why do we look up into the sky (NASA as the main example) and they are wondering if there is life...but when we hear of people possibly seeing UFOs we assume they are crackers and have no idea what they are going on about. How do we know that they aren't millions of years more advanced than us and have visited us and have tried to let us know but we shrug off this idea
We are a strange race we want to believe and yet when told we laugh it off. Why?

Re: We are not alone
I think it'd be grossly egotistical of us to think we are alone in the universe....just look at all the thousands of species on this planet...!

Re: We are not alone
Given the scale of the distances from our planet to any other potential life out there;, Whether life here is a one off unique circumstance, or a frequent occurrence, it is effectively the same thing in real terms IMHO.D41 wrote:I think it'd be grossly egotistical of us to think we are alone in the universe....just look at all the thousands of species on this planet...!
Besides if there was life capable of visiting our planet, they would probably perceive us in a similar way that we perceive a cancer (an explosion of growth that is maiming & threatening to kill the host). They may well therefore choose to cure the planet's ecostructure.?

What was it that Clarke wrote.......sommit along the lines of...."Either we are alone in The Universe, or we are not....either prospect is equally terrifying".

Shouldn't bother referencing that quote Dazzle, iirc some troll may be along and demean it pretty quickly.:D41 wrote:What was it that Clarke wrote.......sommit along the lines of...."Either we are alone in The Universe, or we are not....either prospect is equally terrifying".

I agree with you but there is another explanation...Rossgo wrote:when we hear of people possibly seeing UFOs we assume they are crackers and have no idea what they are going on about.
cue conspiracy...!
Basically that most sightings happen in America near Air Force bases where they might well be building and testing prototypes

Re: We are not alone
Central & South America also get their fair share of sightings too....as does Asia...they're just not as widely reported in English speaking countries. Why would they be??...Nothing else that goes on in South America makes the news....Cav wrote:I agree with you but there is another explanation...Rossgo wrote:when we hear of people possibly seeing UFOs we assume they are crackers and have no idea what they are going on about.

Near airbases kinda makes sense whether it's an air force trying out some cool new gear, or aliens trying to see what's going on....both options woild be easily viewed examples of the latest & greatest technology
in flight....ours or theirs....
As for 'America'.... Well, what makes anyone think an alien race would know what a national border would look like??

Re: We are not alone
If we were to be visited by aliens...do we say we are a proud race or a cruel one? I agree with StMarks here, we have a nice habit of destroying everything yet Base our lives on something called love, there's more evil in this world than love but we are blissfully closing our eyes to it because we have an argument for it. Maybe an alien race would want to protect our world more than us

Re: We are not alone
It's been said before - there are too many people in the world, which means life is cheap. Sadly it'll take a world wide disaster to make us appreciate what we've got.
So if aliens want to come along and trim our numbers then I'm all for it.
