Hastings Direct are geared up for a certain customer. You're not one of them. You've 2 wheels short for a start.

Your excess should be £600 (an example)

However, the company tell you that it's only £250 to get your business in. If you claim, they stump up £350 as part of the settlement, so you only lose £250.

It's a risk they take. They may well have their own insurance policy to cover that excess.

I got a quote from bemoto today and they were based on a £600 excess so I don't think so pal.

Blade. That's a shame Bemoto couldn't help you in this situation. £600 excess is blinking steep!

Blade, you asked how a company can underwrite part of the excess. The figure of £600 was plucked out of the air and used as an example.

Tbh Rossgo living in a major city on a litre bike that's a typical excess in my experience.

Bemoto did offer a separate excess cover policy which would pay 500 toward my excess though.

TBH Rossgo Bemoto have done me a very good quote.

There £40 more expensive than Bikesure but the Policy extras are useful and add up to alot more than £40 so I think Bemoto will get my business.

Spent an hour on the phone to them and have to say I was very impressed. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable on bikes and insurance and good cover.

This sounds ace Blade. I do agree the guy I talked too knew his stuff and did stay on the phone with me for some time but that's good that's how to drum in the business by spending the time with you. Some of these companies don't bother all they are interested in is your wallet. Glad this thread has helped out mate. Don't get me wrong I was with bikesure for 2 or maybe 3 years and they did me proud but glad I tried something different!

Just got a quote of Bemoto to ride the zx10r but lay the sp2 up as Sorn.

It's £70 more expensive to NOT ride the SP2.

I guess the theft risk is higher if the vehicle is laid up.

How weird is that. Cheaper to ride it than not ride it.

Just got a quote from them and they couldn't get down to the Bennetts quote of 115 quid for my bike with it's current mods. Will definitely give them a shout next year when I get more mods, seem like really nice guys.

However it is with a heavy heart that I report the following quote on an email from Bennetts

A good thing is they replace the mods like for like.

So if you have an akrapovic end can and drop it they will replace with a brand new Akrapovic end can, where in my experience a lot of insurers will cover the mods but replace with OEM parts.

I asked bikesure about this, and they also replace like for like on mods. I was interested in the fairing, and they said they would even go so far as to find and instruct the same Chinese company that originally made the fairings.

Good cover but wouldn't you be better getting an OEM Aprilla Fairing Nutz ?

Would they give you the choice or insist on the cheapest option ?

The OEM fairing is boring, and there aren't that many people left to sell it too for a quick buck.

TBH with the age and value of the bike the fairing and rear sets getting trashed would be probably enough to write it off.

My bad Nutz (blush) I hadn't really thought it through and just thought the OEM might be more valuable.

Isn't that just the usual multi-vehicle discount kicking in??

No not really. TBH I can quite often beat a multi bike policy price with 2 single stand alone bike policies if I could use my NCB on both single polices but unfortunately I can't so have to go down the multi bike policy route.
