Surely you only need no more than 3 people for a bike swap? One on each bike and one to flag them in?

Exactly my thought Kwacky, maybe a spare person just incase the bike gets dropped and they need to help pick it up

even with just 3 people per bike 24 bikes = 72 people + pit lane officials + media , I reckon thats almost 100 people in the pit lane

Media should be banned from the pitlane at that time and pit lane officials should reside on the pit wall.
It's not difficult to make it work IMO, just that it's fairly new and rarely used

If you look at the photos most teams had at least 5 people there for bike changes, most had 7. That's taking the piss. F1 limits access and numbers during a race.

Doesn't F1 have the RPM control thing in the pit??
I know that NASCAR (greatest car series ever created!!...not.) implemented sommit like that after a pit crew caught fire...same thing with helmets, 'fire retard(ant)' suits, etc.
I honestly think a pit is more dangerous than the track itself....at least on the track most of the people know what they're supposed to do...a pit is utter mayhem.
