As the Daytona is being axed too, does this reinforce the suggestion that mid sports bikes are to become a thing of the past.??

I don't think they have to worry about Euro 4 regs in racing.

I wonder if this means an end to all of their 600cc based bikes?

Unless Yamaha or Kawasaki are prepared to invest in new engines, my guess is they will all disappear at the end of the year. They just don't sell in big enough numbers to justify the investment especially with Kawasakis rumoured 800cc supercharged sports bike next year.

Things run in cycles with bikes, in my biking life I've seen sports mopeds come and go, road trail bikes ran their course and came back again, the 250 class was epic but still disappeared, 2 strokes were legislated out of existence, big V twins ruled the racetrack (and dealers showrooms) with all manufacturers at one point and hyper sports bikes like the original H2, the Z1 and GS750/1000 came, ruled and subsided again only to rise again 15yrs on as the Fireblade, R1 etc.

Bike fashion changes and I'm sad to see that CBR600RR disappear, but who's to say something similar won't appear again in 10yrs or so?
(It might even have a Flux Capacitor by then )

Along the lines that Mr Deegee pointed, perhaps a "Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor" powered 1 megawatt bike would be even better.?

The loss of the 600cc class will have a major impact on race series , every international and national series has a 600cc class as do most clubs , I cant see what will replace them in racing .

Most clubs have the likes of CB500 and 400cc race series so I'd imagine it'd be fine. I do think that 1000cc bikes are better on the road though so I completely understand why the 600s don't sell as well

I think rider aids are helping sell 1000s. A lot of people used to work their way up to a one litre bike. There was always the talk of learning your craft as well as the fears of a highside from the bigger engine bikes

Now you've got rider aids helping to mop up mistakes people can be a bit braver on the roads and not worry so much if there's some backup from the bike to try and stop you from binning it.

100% correct rider aids have made 1000cc bikes more accessible,most people started on a 600 and worked their way up
