I need to be very careful how I word this, as I don't want it to be taken the wrong way.

There are different types of predators and paedos to my mind. Anyone who has the desire to have sex with a child who is clearly a child and has no attributes of an adult is sick, but I believe they are mentally sick and in need of help. Once they cross over that boundary and carry out an act on a child then it's a crime beyond comprehension. There was a very good documentary not too long ago where a paedophile spoke openly about his condition (for want of a better expression). He had desires but never acted on them.

People who target under 16s are a different league. They clearly see their prey as being mature enough. But the law is in place for a reason. A child cannot legally give consent. However, the person preying on that child is usually trying to make their victim feel like an adult. Adam Johnson did the same thing with his victim.

I hope that makes sense. What I'm trying to say is that both types of crime are abhorrent but I think they are different in that anyone who finds a child attractive or is attracted to children clearly has a psychological issue which needs tackling. Someone like Adam Johnson on the other hand was abusing his position as someone his victim looked up to.

It's clearly an emotive subject.

No, I'm not defending either type. We all have impulses and urges but you know what's right and what's not.

There was a good discussion yesterday on the radio about the distribution of indecent images of minors. Obviously kids have mobile phones and some send photos of themselves to their boyfriend or girlfriend. If they're under 16 it's an offence. One woman said her 15 year old son is now on the sex offenders register because of it and there are other kids in the same position.

Some of the laws need to be reviewed.

A "friend" of mine told me that when she worked in a beauty salon, she'd have 15 and 16 year old girls coming in for horrific treatments, because they believed they should look a certain way...



There's a thing in the news today about not criminalising children for sending those sort of pics to each other, and I can see the point of that. But perhaps we should look at the way society sexualises children, as well? Oftentimes, those parts of the press clamouring loudest for harsh penalties to offenders are those responsible for showing a 14 year old in a "sexy dress".

It's a shame that we can't let kids be kids. The pressure they must feel to grow up these days is surely enormous?

From my patchy memory, when you're in you're early teens you're keen to be seen to be more adult than you were. There's also the hormones kicking off and your interest in sex. Finding out about life comes from a variety of sources. Having to rely on your mum's collection of clothing catalogues or knowing a mate whose dad had a collection of wank mags is a thing of the past. Porn and everything that comes with it (phnar) is a few clicks away.

A schoolfriend of mine has recently found himself back on the dating scene. He went out with a woman his own age who had been enjoying her new found freedom. She told him the number of younger blokes who thought it was fine to do a pop shot on various parts of her as their finishing move was unbelievable, like it was the norm. She also said they generally lack imagination when it comes to arousing someone and that the whole encounter was pretty much tick box - fumble, finger, suck, fook.

I went through a phase of slagging around when I was younger but openly admit I can't remember much about those encounters. I always preferred the chase.

I'm sure romance isn't dead but it's sat in AnE waiting for a junior doctor to be free for 5 minutes.

I feel sorry for the people who do not know the real age of a girl they meet in clubs. If they are in a club they should be over 18 - that is the club's responsibility and there is no excuse for that!

It's in the cases of people who know the true age and still do it. For example:

A guy I went to Primary school with and knew of him throughout Secondary school was yesterday sentenced to 8 months in jail after knowingly having s£x with a 13 year girl. He was friends with the girls brother and therefore would have known her age. He was a stoner and a waster and now he's going to get butt-rap£d and I hope it hurts.

Another guy I know from Secondary school is a known child s£x offender.

It's horrible, people that I got changed with in P.E are actual predators

ive got an old friend that shagged a bird after taking her home from a nightclub ,he took her home in the morning and her dad answered the door.She then cried rape ,it went to court etc he was charged for sex with a minor and put on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.He was a nice guy and in no way a pervert or child molester.It ruined his life

I've had the rape card called before but I didn't even do anything with this girl. I felt sick at the thought of people thinking I would have genuinely done that.

Thankfully it never got as far as the police but I can imagine how getting put on the offenders list would make you feel. I strongly contemplated suicide on two occasions after this, I genuinely don't know what stopped me the second time - I just kept looking for a reason not to do it and clung on to anything I could.

He's been found not guilty on the 3rd charge
