Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Wheeled it out of the mother in law's garage.
After finally making space in my own garage since the move, it seemed right to get the beast moved over.
It's a bit nippy but the sun is out, seems like a good time to do it.
Battery's dead.
So now I'm sat watching the charger. As soon as the light turns green I'm going to try again.

Rode it for the first time this year. Bit nippy and was only out for an hour but still a good feeling to be back on the bike.
Its seems the fuel sensor has packed up over winter though so need to make a phonecall this week.

Try a reset Duke and a fill up with a fresh tank of fuel might be a simple fix in a stuck/frozen switch.

I might replace it now. It's done close to 5,000 miles so it'll need changing in another 1000 miles if it lasts as long as the last rear tyre. New rear tyre with the upgraded shock should feel mintRossgo wrote:Sorry to hear that Kwacky. Hope it's a plug job

Well, trying it as soon as the light came on was a bust, didn't have enough to get it going.
Cue me taking the battery out again, sticking it back on the charger and pacing and cursing about the failing light, dropping temperature and the fact that we could have done this in the f***ing morning!!!
Finally got it cranked over, got everything packed up and off I go.
Into the f***ing snow!!!
Also found that the bolts that hold the seat in place seem to have disappeared. I'm guessing I must have taken them out at some point and failed to refit them. So I guess I'll be turning the garage upside down looking for those now!
On the plus side, my bike is now in my own garage. Which is pretty good in itself, but I went in there about an hour later and the garage smelt good. All manly and petrol-like!

I did wonder that as when the ignition is primed the fuel gauge momentarily reads as it should but once the engines fires it comes up with the error code. Wonder if it just needs the error clearing. Will have to get the manual out and give it a read.Blade wrote:Try a reset Duke and a fill up with a fresh tank of fuel might be a simple fix in a stuck/frozen switch.
The fuel sensors are a known issue with the Multi though.

A known issue is a slight understatement Duke, I have had 4 no fuel sensors ( allegedly) and the last one packed up about a week after it was installed, so the next will be number 5 !!duke63 wrote:I did wonder that as when the ignition is primed the fuel gauge momentarily reads as it should but once the engines fires it comes up with the error code. I doubt they have installed new ones I reckon they have tried to re programme them and then re installed but whatever they do they are useless.

If you're wanting to clear the codes, disconnect the battery overnight - it works on cars so I don't see why it doesn't work on a bike.
You could also try bump starting it. The reason being, if it is something in the startup procedure causing it, the error shouldn't come up once it's been bumped and you may be able to force it that way. It's what I would try, either that or put some redex in with a full tank of Vpower and slosh it about

Trying to bumpstart a big twin is nigh on impossible, cav, though your theory is sound.
Kingfixer, do you generally leave the bike parked up with low fuel? I don't on the whole but have over the winter months as its a plastic tank and i suspect that maybe why the sensor has stuck.

Duke do Ducati have on board factory diagnostics ?
The zx10r does although it is not particularly well know about. I stumbled across it in the maintenance manual. Might be worth a look or quick search.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Fair point Duke.. It wasn't too bad with my SV650 but yes, the ducati will be much more difficult (multi or 748?)
I'm not sure how much you weigh but if you can use all your weight in your favour it's possible. I typically run with the bike in gear (clutch in) then jump and slam my a$$ into the seat as I drop the clutch. Works first time for me

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Si to be honest it wont make difference if its parked with low fuel, 2 of mine have gone within a couple of weeks of being installed. The last one I reckon was a bout 10 days. I don't think they have supplied new ones I think have re programmed/re set them but they still don't work. They don't even work properly on the DVT models so there is an obvious flaw.duke63 wrote:Trying to bumpstart a big twin is nigh on impossible, cav, though your theory is sound.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Left the Dodo in the garage this morning and rode the Harley to work. Which was nice.
Ordered a rectifier/regulator for the Dodo. Grrrr.
Bikes are a constant money sink, huh?

Left them both at home. There was ice on the roads this morning. It's not worth the risk.
