New Toy

Post by Blade »

Finally after a very long time of looking I've took the plunge and bought a second car. I went of the idea of a 911 after a previous scare and always liked the wife's BMW so decided a cabriolet would be a great family sunny day car for days out and holidays.

Went for a 330d M sport Cabriolet. It's just 3 years old and with 30k on the clock so although not quite new it feels and looks like it me.

She's got all the options I wanted and in the right colour scheme imo, silver with black leather. Went for a paddle shift auto and it's a really nice drive and boy is it quick which is surprising as got 48mpg driving home from London yesterday, although even with traction ON it spins the rear easily (giggle) .

I'm absolutely made up with it and it's fully load with absolutely every extra on her from DVD and Internet to Electric seats and fold up mirrors. It's got loads of paperwork and the options list is 2 pages of A4 so I think they just through the accessory catalogue at it (lol)

Here's a quick photo. Hope you like even though it has 4 wheels ;)

Very smart motor indeed Blade, & I have to agree with you on the colour scheme of sliver with black leather interior (can't think why ;) )
It looks like you have almost a full inch clearance between the garage door & that concrete step, the car could almost be made to measure.!

That's a bit of an illusion as the brick post is of to the side. I only parked it there to wash whilst missus was at work as she normally parks there and I will park on the other side where I have fitted a security post.

I don't think it needs it tbh. It's spinning up the rear now as has 520nm of torque as standard.

Need is immaterial when it comes to performance, you should know that by now ;)

Nice ride though, it's been a journey finding it but glad you have found a goodun in the end (y)

Tbh I did think I would go for a remap but after driving it I don't think it needs it as its a genuinely quick car as standard and feels as quick as the 911 I test drove on the road at least although on track Im sure the 911 would blitz it.

I think the 335d which is not available as a cabriolet is 4 wheel drive with BMW'S x drive and I can see why to handle all the torque. On my 330d the back spins up very easily now and that's on nearly new 255 wide rear Bridgestones so remapped it would just not be able to deploy the power. 520nm is a lot of torque and although the 0-60 time of 5.9secs is impressive it's the in gear midrange acceleration that really punches the speed out.

The gearbox is a 6 speed auto but you can shift it to being a sequential clutch less manual or use the paddles on the wheel which if you rev it out its most un diesel like with quite a healthy top end.

Not bad*.

Found out over Xmas that my little brother has a mint 650i stashed in his garage, with AC Schnitzer alloys.

I think in his position, I'd be driving that, instead of the stupid X6 which is his daily driver.

*sorry, that's about as excited as I get over cars, mostly
