Bearing in mind the style of bike you've got, I actually like it.

No experience of 'em though.

Re: chins...

Has anyone ever actually scraped their chin coming off? Almost all the damage I've seen or done myself has been to the upper part of the shell. I've worn some pretty flimsy helmets in my time and I see plenty of people out there who swear that a cheapo Chinese lid will protect them as well as an Arai or Shoei. Good luck with that...

I've had a fair few offs, yes, thanks. And I always wear proper gear. If I do get a half shell lid, it would have to be legal for British roads. I'll see what's available at the MCN show. There's always this sort of thing....

But it's kinda ugly and it doesn't offer much more protection (if any) to the lid previously pictured.

Have you thought about a flip lid so you can use it on the cruiser and on the other bikes?

Fair enough.

I also saw this Roof lid http://www.motocentral.co.uk/roof-roadster.html#150=959" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which I quite liked. The black one with the peace sign looks pretty good as well

The answer to that is that I have had a full face helmet for all my road riding, so actually have no idea if my face would have been damaged had I been wearing an open helmet.
I suspect that, as the bottom bar is referred to as a "chin guard", and they are a subsequent development......?

Besides, I feel it my public duty that I hide my offensively ugly mug away from public view as much as possible (people of a nervous disposition & all that...)
Open face helmets smack of narcissism, so I'll leave that to you pretty boys. (smirk)

Please don't feel that I'm lecturing you, or criticising your choices. IMHO you should do what you want & everyone else can "do one". However you did ask for opinions mate, so please don't take it the wrong way when the opinions you're exposed to are not what you would hope for.
But when ten people tell you you're drunk.......? ;)

Lastly I have damaged my face a few times falling from a horse, because my skull cap only offers head protection.

The thing is, I've kind of already found my long term lid for this bike, like Kwacky's recent one it's an open face Arai but the one I want won't be available until later in the year. So what I really want is a cheap tide-me-over.

I wasn't really wanting to look like a stormtrooper necessarily, it was just a thought.

But I also think that if you do have an off and you're in a position to worry about your chin, you're probably doing ok anyway.

Judging by what I've read, I'd fit in much better if I stripped it into its component parts and left it lying around?

I don't know what a Darren is, but if you can afford the fees, you might have a shot... ;)

Darren is D41. He's a strange sort. He's been quiet of late. Probably back in jail.

Unfortunately, I've only ever been to the visitors wing.

Regarding advice, yeah, that is why I asked... I was fully expecting to get opinions ranging from "I hate those, they'll hurt you, you're an idiot" to "I don't know" or "try this". This is the internet, where every man jack of us can be an unchallenged, world leading expert, after all.

And although I might be somewhat n00bish here, I'm really not in internet terms, so I know what to expect.

I'm not awfully fond of being called "gay" as a pejorative, and so I'm likely to bite back to it, but hey, if you can't stand the heat, don't pull a dog's tail, or some other crappy cliche. :)
