2016 Honda CBR600rr

Post by Kwacky »

Looks like the US has had the first look at Honda's middleweight

Sadly it sounds like they've done nothing to it.

CBR600RR
Returning to Honda's 2016 lineup in a new Black/White color is the versatile CBR600RR, comprising an impressive package of handling, power, compact size and overall performance. Whether customers are looking to tear up the track, carve through the canyons or commute to work, this versatile middleweight sport bike can handle it all. The popular and race-proven CBR600RR is also available with Honda's revolutionary electronic Combined Antilock Braking System (C-ABS), offering added confidence under less-than-ideal conditions.
•Color: Black/White
•PricesAvailability: January 2016' ◦CBR600RR: $11,490

It's looking very dated IMO.

It's almost like the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer has no interest at all in the sports bike sector. Let's hope that changes soon.

Think they must be throwing everything into their new Africa Twin.. With Marquez riding it across a wasteland in the advert!! Am sure a Dakar rider or some off-roader would ha even more appropriate however I guess it's Marquez fame

I can't remember the last time the 600rr had a big upgrade. Cosmetic changes in 2013. Was it 2009 when Honda last did anything significant with it?

I guess its hard to justify doing much when supersport sales are so rubbish

Tooling, research and manufacturing costs will be similar too whether the bike is 600cc or 1000cc and they can sell the 1000cc bike for a few grand more.

I suspect the days of 600cc supersport are numbered and wonder how many will be discontinued this time next year when Euro 4 comes in. The money and research seems to be going into 500--650cc parallel twins with the Japanese now.

That's a fair point but we know that Honda doesn't rely on the supersport sales. The scooter sales bring in loads of money for them, that's just in the two wheel sector.

Looks the same (almost) as the ten year old one we have in the garage. Shame, but I don't see much 600 development at present by anyone.

I think 600 sports bikes will dwindle and die. There does seem to be a little more interest in litre bikes, but sales of those aren't great either.

I've no idea what the sales of the 600s are like. Is the Daytona 675 still going well?

The market seems to have shifted regards sportsbikes.

The 600 market is in decline and so is the litre class but they have started to make the litre class seen as a premium, high specification product and produced in much smaller numbers for a preium price tag to match the premium specification.

I do remember one of the Triumph development team saying a couple of years back at the updated 675 launch that if they had known how super sport sales would plummet it's likely they would not have updated the bike.

The costs involved for even updating the bikes in this class are not covered by sales. None of them are selling in sufficient quantities. The only way to really afford it is to have millions coming in from other area like heavy industry, or scooters etc.

Ok sad part of me coming out. I have always loved the Honda badge on the tank. Think it looks quailty. On the older models it's all stickers hate that! I'm sure the new 600rris cracking bike just a shame the looks aren't changed much in my opinion
