2016 R1S

Post by Blade »

Details are now coming through and as expected it's a slightly lower spec / cheaper version of the R1 with the aim to attract younger buyer over to the Yamaha sportsbikes.

I wonder how well that'll work as a marketing tool?

Will it attract more people to the R1 and so be a success or will it simply dilute the R1 buyers, making it a less profitable exercise?

I can't see it diluting the number of R1 owners personally.

However I would rather spend the extra £1000 and have the full phat version. If you can afford 14k you can probably find the extra grand to make 15k. Especially if done on a pcp deal as the difference in monthly repayments will be very small.

If the R1s was 2 or 3 grand cheaper it may be a better seller but imo the price difference is too small to make the compromise on specification worth any consideration.

That's what I was getting at, but badly. Like you say, most people will cough up that little bit extra.

So does the cheaper model make sense and attract new buyers?

I thought I read somewhere that it was only for the american market .

Slightly off topic my son put his name down and has been allocated a 2017 R1M , he's already confirmed it and paid the deposit .

I can only guess they will have conducted some market research which says yes it will help improve sales volume.

However like you I wouldn't even consider it over the regular R1.

What ever they do, the new R1 has not really made me look up and think I would like that. The older models I think it must be about three face lifts back are the best looking in my eyes (obviously I am not speaking about mechanical improvements) I am just talking looks alone.
