I'm not normally one to comment, but these seem massive to me for someone who has done a couple of track days.

They do but then i remember being told by a racer that chicken strip sizes are no guide as to pace of the rider as the fastest riders have the bike on its side for a very short time.

I agree with that, as racers pick the bike up as soon as they can to get the power down, but that still means you need to lean the bike over at some point to get around a corner.

As I say, I'm probably being harsh. I'm simply surprised at how little of the tyre has been used seeing as a couple of track days have been done.

However the sides don't appear to have been even lightly scrubbed, as the moldings appear clearly defined.

For just £ 70 I'm very tempted to buy them myself, except my wheel & tyre stack is getting a bit silly now.

It seems to me that Smat has more money than sense, that tyre is almost new - it hasn't even seen any serious heat as there's no sign of "blueing". If he isn't getting the grip he wants there's something wrong with (1) his tyre choice (2) his suspension or (3) his tyre pressures.

P.s. Sorry if you read this Smat, that's how I see it.

Niall Mckenzie told me at a track day at donnington you should have a bit of margin on the edge of your tyre but he was talking around 5mm ! Not three foot

Makes sense and tbh I'm much more comfortable with a few mm left at the very edge even if it looks better to have zero chicken strips in the pub car park shoot out.

I think profile makes a huge difference too.

I can take a 190/55 Rosso Corsa right to the very edge with no strip remaining but I was leaning a 190/50 Supercorsa over further and still had a few mm remaining of fresh rubber which as I say I prefer. At least I know I have something in reserve.

You would think the 50 profile has a less aggressive profile than the 55 profile but I guess the Supercorsa must be more triangular in its profile than a Rosso Corsa.

I was thinking of sticking a 200/55 Rosso Corsa on the ten but not sure if it will effect the traction control calibration as you would have a bigger circumference than the stock 190/55

Me and Frankie were both on new M5s, same profiles 190/55 doing the same speeds. I had a good few mm left on my rear, Frankie didn't. I guess style plays a big part as well

I've got that difference just from left to right. I'm way more comfortable on RH ers, as such I get knee down on every RH corner at the track but still have 1-2 mm on the tyre. LH ers I only lightly touch my knee on about half the corners yet I have no chicken strip at all on that side.

The BSB take offs I bought had at least half an inch left on both sides. One track day later with my sack of spuds on them and they were gone!

I looked at the thread on 675cc and that pic you post Kwacky was of the front tyre, his rear loks a lot more respectable in regards to chicken strips. Also looking at the pic St Marks posted of him, he seems to have a good body position and I'd say uses less of the tyre at the same speed than I do..

Yes it is definitely the front kiwi I picked up on that too and you can see he's done 2500 miles on the rear.
