Enduro bikes and road legality

What makes some of these bikes road legal and others not?

It doesn't seem necessarily to have anything to do with having lights fitted.

And are four strokes a better bet than two strokes?


Any advice welcome.

Topical question for sure, I have been thinking about an enduro bike for a while, but with things as they have been it has not been on the top of my agenda.. Well until I got a message out of the blue regarding the sale of my tiger, PX + Cash.... well after looking into the bike a little more, A name I was not overly familiar with. However after a lot of research I was happy to do the deal. I needed the cash and the bike looks just the ticket for a little off roading fun, so I done the deal.

However to answer your original question my want list was a four stoke - Enduro bike 350cc and above. V5 present. So being an Enduro not a full on MX bike, which you would have to mess about with to get on the road, the Enduro route would be easier.

I did not have any preference to what make, KTM,Kawasaki, Honda or Suzuki...I would go for as they all seem more than capable it would be down to price and availability.

So without further ado, here is the new toy in the Mancave. Its a 450cc Single four stroke. with less than 500 miles on the clock.

Looks like a Scherco, a French-Spanish manufacture. The sell them in the US as well, but not seen them in the flesh yet.

That looks like a giggle, and I'm betting with a 450 single the front end will be aloft nearly as often as the tiger.

Yep it's a Sherco, made in France and Spain, orignally Known for trials bikes, but have been producing enduros as well, supposed to be a little brutal in comparison to the others, (bothered!------Not ha ha )
The name comes from Sherpa and Bultaco (yes those mad machines)

They orignally used KTM Engines, and still use after market suspension leaders and quality wheels on the bikes.
She sounds nice, yet to use in anger. Need to get onto the mucky stuff soon.

Already got boots, well old enduros type boots, they will do for now. Pulled out my old helmet and pants from the loft, trouble is pants are bright pink and lime green ha ha, a little too bright and a tad tight
Helmet is an old Roberts, but is past its sell by date, so I do have new googles and helmet on route .
I have gloves that will do for now too.

Lesson one with a single thumper Frankie, never snap the throttle off mid corner slide, the things have massive compression braking.

A lesson it took me awhile to learn coming from two strokes.

Based not a million miles from you I think, Wirral off road. I went into the ktm dealer in North Wales when I was thinking about going off road and the guy recommended them. Very friendly and have events all over north Wales.
Advice I was given was as a rule don't buy too big a bike as it'll just tire you out.
