Finally handed the keys in on the 650 Versys.

My god the sx felt weird on the ride home. The riding position was full on sports bike, the seat was hard, the suspension firm and the acceleration mental.

I felt back at home this morning on the ride into work. it's nice not having to change gears as you're trying to accelerate past a car.

very fast and flowing, with a couple of twiggly bits, but also quite bumpy. good facilities (garages, power, toilets/showers), very welcoming staff, over night staying available.

Enjoyed the quieter roads. Looking forward to the next few weeks with no mums and dads taking their kids to school.

Looked at the big hole in the fairing. Not going to get time this break to fix it by the looks, go back to work in just over a week.

Today went to the ABC Advanced Braking Course. Been absolutely incredible. Been a long day constantly doing things. So well organised once again by instructors thoroughly enjoyed it.

Started off with very basic stopping by using the rear brake only. Seemed easy but actually everyone on the first run used their front! Just naturally did it! Anyway second run. 3rd, 4th 5th runs went very well.

Did some soloms and practiced a bit of counter steering. Did some very scary quick response manoeuvring. Basically practicing if a car just stopped in front of you to pull into a parking spot. For this we had quite decent size area marked out from cones with a instructor inside who you had to blast at (up to 35mph) where he will just decide which way you must direct the bike around the cones and exit from the marker cones. This was quite tough as the instructors gave you very little time to manoverour but was worthwhile.

Then we had lunch

Came back and then started to do rear wheel skid then front wheel skid then high speed braking - only front brake (I was hitting around 90mph) on the last run was I warned I was really hammering it and was close to the limits. Well the last run I felt as f the rear skiddalled about. Was great fun actually and really has opened up my eyes of exactly what the bike can do.

I would give the course a 12 out of 10 looking forward to more next year [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Oh and while we was at RAF Odiham the OMC?? Race club were there. So saw Baron von Grumble (didn't have a chat as when I saw him he was chatting to someone else), Weem (he accidently pulled up into our group and I heard his voice took a look at his number plate and realised it was him so had a little gander over and said hello, and believe Red Renna too although can't be 100% (she had red hair and was fit so just filled in the gaps!)

This is for people who watch YouTube quite a bit if not them your have no idea who I'm going on about!

Something like 30% of bikers only ever use their rear brake. Braking skills courses are a potential life saver.

Couldn't agree more. Didn't no that fact Kwacky. I usually use the front then the rear to actually stop me and then hold me in place.
But this course was to experience how strong both brakes are, front being extremely strong!!

It's an old stat, I was told it about 10 years ago by an IAM instructor. Took me by surprise as well.

If your braking properly with your front brake the rear wheel is in the air and subsequently the back brake is redundant ;) well apart from the odd hill start, when hill climbing obviously (giggle)
