Wet ride in to work, but strangely enjoyable. Didn't seem as greasy as other wet days. Or maybe my tyres are getting grippier now they've done a few hundred miles.

Most of the tyres work better with a decent amount of water on the road than just damp.
Edit. In my opinion. Before I get hit with stats and data

thats because heavy rain washes all the grease and crap off the road so it makes perfect sense.

I think there is also some unnoticed changes in rider mindset. If it's only slightly damp you still tend to try and hustle the bike round a bit, where as when there is rain streaming down your visor you tend to resign yourself to a slower pootle.

I don't mind doing decent speeds in the wet. Having confidence in your tyres really helps.
And what Perky says is spot on as well.

Agreed, most road tyres have more than enough grip to allow you to ride the same in the wet as dry. The problem is re less relaxed on the bike (not excluding me) which is not good for the bike. Also as you ride slower there is less heat in the tyres.Kwacky wrote:I don't mind doing decent speeds in the wet. Having confidence in your tyres really helps.

Its rained that much this winter there shouldnt be any crap on the roads.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Trouble is that the roads which have banks either side, or are in thee country get all the crap washed down from the fields, so you end up with the traffic moving this crap to the centre of the roads, bends are the worse as you are forced to use one side or the other of your lane, rather than a nice smooth line with the best view...

I had to take an alternative route into work as the M6 was shut due to a massive crash. I understand that people have had to be cut out of their vehicles.

The biggest problem with riding/driving in the wet is the stopping distances. Even the very best rider will not stop as quickly in the wet.

Washed the GPZ and took the seat off to see if I could wrap some of that non slip magic mat around it to give a bit more grip and discovered the battery totally flat, not impressed, but too heavy too bump start , great
