That there London

Post by Kwacky »

RIDERS of motorcycles made before 2007 will have to pay a £12.50 daily charge to enter central London under the approval of a new Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

The daily toll will be introduced on September 7, 2020, and affects bikes made before July 2007, when the European emission standard known as ‘Euro 3’ became a minimum requirement for new motorcycles.

The ULEZ will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will charge bikes at the same rate as cars and vans under Transport for London’s plans

Seems a bit harsh seeing as bikes reduce traffic.

I take it the system relies on you having the standard engine and exhaust? Otherwise the emissions won't be to standard will they?

The other point is that is stated bikes contribute 1% of emissions. And most bikes are kept for years. This will make resale of 8 year old bike around London impossible regardless of condition.. So.. Is it really greener to make people buy new bikes more frequently .. Considering manufacturing process , shipping, etc etc.. More scrapping..more manufacturing.. More cost. Doesn't add up

If get a dam good bike or two for a monthly payment of 250 quid..equivalent to a monthly commute to work with the congestion charge

Meh, for me it's just another excuse not to goto London anyway...

If it comes into effect in 2020 the bikes would be 13 years old so shouldn't effect too many, but agree not good policy.
