Police not supporting Police

Post by Kwacky »

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-31497559" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A constable has been told to remove a union jack badge supporting a police charity from his uniform because it breaches Sussex Police policy.

The badge, depicting a thin blue line on the union flag, is sold to raise money for the families of police officers who died in the line of duty.

The West Sussex officer was told to removed it by his supervisor.

The Police Federation said it was disappointed but Sussex Police said officers had to look professional.

The emblems are sold in support of the charity COPS (Care of Police Survivors).

The force is meeting members of the federation later to discuss the issue.

Mark White, of the Sussex Police Federation, said it was disappointed that officers were being told that they could not display "a sign of support to a very worthwhile charity".

And here's a link to the charity if you want to donate or buy some stuff in support. I've ordered a sticker for my lid. It might help if I get pulled over ;)

Coming from a family of coppers and a few of my mates are also coppers I am always in support of them and the ever increasing tough job they do, but if police forces allowed their officers to show signs of their support to any charity or cause they wish, it will just open the floodgates to allow any copper to pin anything to their unfiorm. I can understand why they have done it.

The term Uniform mean "remaining the same in all cases and at all times; unchanging in form or character"

They have to make allowances for religous purposes to allow seikhs to wear the turban, but to allow pin badges to be stuck on their clothing is a bit far.

Saying all of that, I have donated to the charity whcih you have supplied the link to.

I personally think they should be allowed to wear them. I recogn it's because it has the union Jack on it and we all know that's just racist in its self...sickening flag!!!!!!! Not allowed anything in this country...first porn now this what's next won't be allowed too look at eachother soon!!

Rob is right. It's a uniform. If they allow that then what else do they have to allow?
