The Commons has voted to allow pub landlords to pick where they get their beer from. Most places are tied to a brewery so they have to buy from one supplier, which can mean inflated prices.
Hopefully it'll broaden the selection available and see a drop in prices in the pubs.
Good news for beer drinkers

Re: Good news for beer drinkers
My old Bosses wife and daughter bought their local pub and ran it for a year. They then quit. Said the prices from the brewery were rdiciulous and they were really strict. He said he could even buy bottled beer cheaper from the local Tesco. He said bottled items weren't too bad as you could hide the sales, but anything on draught went through meters, so he couldn't buy beer from anywhere else as it would show.
It meant the boozer closed down, and there was no local pub for years.

The pub companies are well known for being short sighted. They would refuse to do a deal with an existing landlord because they refused to alter contracts, but I know of loads of examples where a new landlord has got a better deal than the old one wanted.

Hmm....I'm fairly sure the British Oak is a Punch Tavern and it's got a very good selection of beer at a fair price. I hope we don't throw the baby out with the bathwater in this case as I really do like that pub.

I can't see the Oak changing to be honest. It's more likely to impact places like the Three Horsehoes.
