Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
Strange time of year to publicise the fact but worth knowing for next Spring.

I must admit I do back off now the moment a bike I don't know gets close. I suspose that's what they want.

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
I'm with Kwacky on this one. I know my luck they would follow me doing 70 in a 60 and ill get locked up, it's just my luck! I can see the purpose of having them scattered about but be honest in Wales bikers and drivers alike go there for a good adventure why crush someone if they aren't hurting anyone

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
The problem is they do. Wales has a pretty high rate of motorbike crashes. Not only do people get hurt but it's very expensive to deal with crashes and their consequences.

See where your coming from. I suppose we all run the risk of either crashing and hurting yourself or someone or getting pulled and receiving a ban. Or we all just ride to the rules

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
I back off if someone on a bike unknown to me is getting close/following, I also do it in the car, I spend a great deal of time on the motorways in particular in the car and there you will find a great deal of unmarked cars. You get that feeling when a car is following you.
I am the first to admit I don't drive at 70 mph on the motorway, so I spend as much time looking in my review as I do where I going lol.

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
There are loads of unmarked cars on the roads I use to get to and from work so I'm always conscious when I'm filtering at speed that I don't cut up one of them.

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
Problem is it's highly unlikely that you'll be travelling at 70mph even if that's what your speedo tells you you're doing, EU rules state that speedometers should not be able to under read your speed, in other words there is no +/-10% any more only -10%, so vehicle manufacturers actively set the speedos to read slower than actual speed, it varies but it'll be anything up to 10% under as per the rules. So an indicated 70 may only be 65, it's not the same error at all speeds either, speedometers are made cheaply and the discrepancy may be 5% at 30mph 0% at 50mph and 9% at 70mph.Frankie wrote:I am the first to admit I don't drive at 70 mph on the motorway...
The only speedometers that will be accurate are tachographs in trucks and coaches and Police traffic division cars and even then I'm not sure if the police still have calibrated speedos or whether they have a list of percentage corrections for a standard speedo.
P.S. I get the same feeling as Frankie - it's that feeling you get when someone is watching you......

Re: Unmarked police bikes in Wales.
Those road signs that record your speed and flash it at you normally give a reading at 1 or 2 mph above my indicated speed. There's one near me and I've tested it a few times

And I'm sure in that area they have their favorite hot spots that would occupy 60-70% off their patrol time.

Would be nice if they posted the accident hot spots so we could be extra careful and considerate of conditions when passing through these area's. After all safety is always our primary concern
