The electric car revolution

My Dad now has 2 electric cars in the household and with solar panels and batteries. The solar panels feed to the grid for 12p return. He charges his car and batteries for 6p overnight from the grid. His batteries are usually enough to cover a full day working from home for both him and his Wife.

I am pretty sure there be either restrictions on use or extra costs to use petrol cars in 10 years time if global warming continues at its current rate. Stafford is surrounded by water at the moment.

There's going to be extra costs on electric once they're the majority and charging hours will be heavily limited... or even capped.

How many panels does he have to get that supply? Solar is very high up my shopping list as the shed costs a fortune to run over the winter, if I could power even half of it with solar I'd be a happy man

Even on overcast days he can pull about a kW/h I think he said... although I'm a bit ropey with the numbers so don't hold me to that. I remember thinking he's pulling enough to boil a kettle every 2 hours.

It's just about being smart with the usage and batteries are a must!

It would also be extremely handy if I happen to live opposite someone who runs a company that supplies and fits solar setups. She is also a specialist in energy cost reduction

Reading some comments about it, it looks like it's going to be difficult to transfer this tech to motorbikes.

Using current tech, 75 litres of storage gives you 3kg of hydrogen. Someone reckons that's about 100 miles of range.

75litres of high pressure storage too... so let's take a stab that it'll be 30kg or more of tank to store 100 miles of range... which has now dropped to 80 miles of range thanks to the additional mass.

Not so massive.. I wonder if the manufacturers have found limits to battery power and have decided a different approach is What's needed.

Imagine how many decades it would take the UK to implement a viable hydrogen filling stations network.

We are already years behind Europe on EV charging stations.

I would be very surprised if hydrogen is the answer as it needs electricity to produce it and even then its only half as efficient in a vehicle as electric power.
