Tidied up the wiring and refitted the fogs today, I got more satisfaction from this little project than I get at work SW Motech say on the website that these bars do not work with these fogs, I accepted that challenge...

The Touratech mounts allow some left/right adjustment as the bars are not straight, at max adjustment the fog lights sit perfectly straight

That is their main use so far, Filter Lights... I'm amazed how effective they are at getting the bike noticed.

They're also quite useful on country lanes as it makes the bike look wider, which does slow down some of the twats that try to knock you off.

Got the bike out today and did another 190 miles of careful running in, trying to keep it below 7K but giving it up to 3/4 throttle = power wheelies in soft suspension mode.

I noticed that I had over adjusted the fogs and the bike was cross-eyed, so when I got home I shortened an allen key so I didn't have to take the mount's apart and levelled them left/right with a broom handle as a guide, then re-levelled them vertically

462 miles so far and got until Friday to get some more, might set the Garmin to a 120 mile round trip tomorrow then by the time I get to the dealer it will be done.

Might get some of those auxiliary lights for my V4 Multi, not least because the Ducati ones are made by Rizoma.

Yeah they came with the bike, they're pretty bright so they can stay... I will see what they're like at night soon enough.

Well, that didn't take long. Brief ride today and the SOS system has thrown a hissy fit and flagged a malfunction message asking to see a specialist workshop.

Google says that it's most likely that it had a poor signal and will sort itself out. Might give it another go tomorrow.

Looks like it was just a poor signal as all was well today, 300 miles up to the lake district and back with the message showing up once at Skipton and then staying off... 1175 miles already.

If you can do a European tour I would recommend it, I loved it!
The way we did it was not the cheapest but we would have the first hotel in each direction pre booked, then from there pick a general area for lunch the following day and get on booking.com to pick a hotel for the night over our meal, on really hot days we reduced the mileage and picked a hotel with a pool, on cooler days we made up the lost distance.

I think the peak temperature we saw was 38°c and 12°c up on the mountain peaks, in August they had snow on the Grimsel pass, in early July it was mid 20's.

There were times where it rained and I didn't bother with waterproofs, it was mid 30's and the cooling was welcomed, we dried out pretty quick.

Well that didn't last long...

I had a whoopsie near Moffatt yesterday after visiting St Mary's Loch. I ran wide on a left hander and still have no idea why, probably target fixation on the oncoming car


I'm okay, battered and bruised with a nice 4 stitch cut on my right shin.

The bike, the crash bar ripped a hole in the engine and is probably responsible for the leg injury and it flung the top box into the scenery... After a hit like that I would be surprised if they fix this one so I'm about to experience BeMoto's usefulness, tomorrow when the offices open.

BMW's SOS system worked but being in the Scottish countryside it had a very poor signal so they couldn't hear me, I had the same issue contacting BeMoto so I borrowed a friends phone and got BMW assist to recover the bike to Carlisle.

Oh I got handed a ticked by the police officer too, I will pay that tomorrow whilst I'm on with my little to-do list of booking myself in to get the stitches out, calling the insurance folks and possibly getting signed off work for a week. In my job we load and unload the trailers ourselves so I will see what Doc says on that one.


The biggest Thank You goes to my riding buddies, Whilst I was taken away in an ambulance Dave stayed with the bike until it was recovered, Garry rode home to Leeds ASAP, got in his car, collected Sergio and headed back to Dumfries to bring me home with plenty of piss taking on the way

The ticket is for Careless Driving, 3 points and £100... Could have given me one for Dangerous Driving so it could have been worse.

Glad you walked away with what sounds like pretty minor injuries looking at the state of that car.
