Serious question, I'm not familiar with sharia law.
Irrespective of the answer, I hope the bigoted ignorant twunts responsible are shamed by those they profess to represent, and thereafter come to suffer as much pain as him.

I think a fatwah is like a religious decree or a ruling.....so in Rushdie's case a fatwah was issued calling for his death - I think a price was put on his life - or death, I suppose.
I don't think there's a time limit involved... it's an "in perpetuity" sorta thing.

It's a $3m price tag on his head. The fatwa remains until he's dead or if it's cancelled
