Two weeks wait to hear if I progress through.
Well heard sooner than I thought. Have a interview with the Sydney Area Production Manager over zoom early next week. 3 jobs were up on offer and I’ve been selected for the one 15 mins down the road. Only three people through to the second interview. So by all accounts the job is mine to lose.

I’m still not decided which way I’m going to go, Sydney Water or Defence Consultant.

Need to do a pro cons list, it’s seriously affecting my sleep now.

But either way, looks like I’ll be quitting offshore next trip.

What a nice dilemma to have. Either way you won't be having to deal with the shit that seems to surround working off shore

Have to agree with Kwacky.
Perhaps taking a look at the changing world, and factor the likely direction & how it could effect the pressures on you in each role.?

Many congratulations..!!
Of the two, 15 minutes away from home is pretty hard to beat no matter what the job is....that'd be a big factor for me if I were fortunate enough to be in a similar dilemma.

The other one is working from home 3-4 days a week D, so even closer (lol)

But I’ve been doing online web classes for the last 5 days upgrading my Training & Assessment qualification and it’s shown me I don’t think WFH is for me.

The second interview went well. It was with the Head of Water Supply/Production for Sydney. He was very complimentary of my experience and said he absolutely wants me onboard. So just waiting for a formal offer to be made by HR.

I’m thinking it’s the way I’m going to go. It fits my goals and values to be working within my community and in an essential service and having direct impact on safe environmental use of our river.

Also if we have another COVID style lockdown situation, my job is safe.

Also we have a Fed election this weekend and one of the promises of one of the majors is a substantial cut to consultant costs to govt.

Everybody is really fecking aggressive at work at the minute. It's been building for some time.

It's now a place full of teams of individuals and no one will help anyone out, even if it's their job.

I know you’ve liked moving from project to project and enjoyed the change, is the work at this place something you could see yourself doing long term?

I’m sure the stability would would take a lot of stress from you having to chase contracts regularly

It's a good place to be. I'm enjoying the project and am told that there are always different projects to move into when this one finishes. Plus, just because it's perm doesn't mean it has to be forever.

The benefits of a permanent WFH position with a strong salary are appealing. Put on top the other benefits of perm is almost a no-brainer. The final part of the decision is the state of the UK, we're heading into a recession and it has the makings of a big one. Guaranteed work and income, yes please.

Our IT system is down. Nothing is working.

There's no timescale for the fix so we're asked to sit around and wait.

Do any of you guys know of fiberglass tank builders or pneumatic/hydraulic actuated hollow rams which allow water to run through them?

I'm struggling to source a supplier for both of these.
