Re: What are you doing today ??
Our current house was bought for practical reasons only. We've got no real connection or love for it. We loved our old house and where we lived. We didn't want to leave. I could walk away from this house tomorrow.

That's crazy to me, Kwacky. We love our house and it has future potential if I can grab the land at the side. We actually bought this house hoping to never move.

Re: What are you doing today ??
As has been said - dont rush it. Look at as many as you dare - it will teach you more about what you dont like than what you do. You should then be able to refine your search and know what to look for and all the tricks Estate Agents play with pictures, descriptions and information.Itchy wrote:Our house offer was rejected, which is a shame but can't be helped.
The house we were supposed to be looking at today has switched estate agents for some reason, so they've cancelled our viewing.
Also a shame, but deep down we knew that house wasn't really right anyway.
I knew buying a house is supposed to be one of the most stressful things you can do in life, but I haven't even spent any money yet and I'm already losing sleep!
Anyway, got a couple of new builds to look at this week, we'll see what they bring to the table.
I've bought and sold plenty of properties and rule number 1 for me is do your own research and thinking - an estate agent is there to sell you something, they dont care who you are. Rule 2 is conveyancers / solicitors are lazy and need pushing - ALL the time.
New houses - look nice, but look at the detail - they can be finished poorly. If you do go for one - go and look at it while it's being built and be very bullish about snagging - its your one and only opportunity to get stuff sorted. They build them to speed and budget these days - quality can be further down the list depending on the builder. They also tend to pinch space at every opportunity.
There are houses popping up on the market all the time - the right one may well not be on the market yet - but it will be.
Oh and think about when the stamp duty holiday and furlough finishes - there may well be bargains and repossessions to be had then.

That's exactly what this one was, it ticked all the boxes.StMarks wrote: Of course if the "right house in the right area" crops up quickly, that's fine. It seems less usual though.
Unfortunately, we got the feeling from the estate agent that the higher offers were at least 7 grand more than ours, which trumped our position of not being in a chain.
Hey ho, it obviously wasn't meant to be.
As long as we've managed to complete by December 2022 then I'll be happy.

The start of a shit storm of paperwork.
Turns out they didn't get round to doing a will or making any funeral arrangements. My step dad never uses the internet. I saw him today and there's about 3 weeks of unopened post.
So muggings here is having to start the ball rolling. I've pre-registered mum's death and spoken to a funeral director.

Oh gawd... no will is a bit unfair. Dunno about in UK but that ties things up for ages over here.Kwacky wrote:The start of a shit storm of paperwork.

Instructing the accountants to close my limited company.
It's a sad day for me as I've worked through my company for about 10 years, another Tory victim.

That sucks. There's a nice autonomy to be had when you're running your own show.... it's more work to be sure, but that feeling of independence is tough to beat.

It's and absolute **** up of a set of laws that make no sense and contradict each other. Companies are just doing the easiest thing to comply.

I'm working today. I've got a chat with a witness this afternoon so I thought I would ease myself back in and start to clear the backlog of emails.

Tidying and cleaning the workshop.. since all the DIY it has slowly become inhabitable. Also, I need to find the resting place for my new MTB!
