It’s the arrogance. It’s the contempt. That’s what gets me. It’s Gordon Brown’s apparent belief that he can just trample on the democratic will of the British people. It’s at moments like this that I think the political world has gone mad, and I am alone in detecting the gigantic fraud.”
They voted for Anthony Charles Lynton Blair to serve as their leader. They were at no stage invited to vote on whether Gordon Brown should be PM… They voted for Tony, and yet they now get Gordon, and a transition about as democratically proper as the transition from Claudius to Nero. It is a scandal. Why are we all conniving in this stitch-up? This is nothing less than a palace coup… with North Korean servility, the Labour Party has handed power over to the brooding Scottish power-maniac.”
“The extraordinary thing is that it looks as though he will now be in 10 Downing Street for three years, and without a mandate from the British people. No one elected Gordon Brown as Prime Minister…”

Re: The next prime minister
He's a PG Wodehouse caricature. Brits love him as he's posh, slightly barmy and eccentric and doesn't mind throwing in a bit of casual racism for a laugh. It's also the reason why most people outside of the UK can't stand him.

Re: The next prime minister
If he suspends Parliament to enable the process, he will have achieved what they are baying out for.Kwacky wrote:I'm worried about Johnson getting in. His hard line "we must quit by 31st October" will appeal to the tory membership, most of which are old and think Brexit is going to give us back the Empire
Ironically, far from "returning our empire", I can quite see brexit being the the end of the United kingdom.:
Scotland will vote again on their independence, and the logical result will be a landslide for devolution.
Ireland will become one unified republic (Northern Ireland voted in favour of remaining in the EU, and joining the south would be the best way to achieve that)
So that will leave our empire extending to just england & Wales. -I wonder how long the Welsh will want to continue joining our isolation, when the £2 billion of EU subsidies is replaced by an "affordable allowance" from whitehall.?
Like everything else about Brexit, it seems to me that the expectations of those who want to leave, are the polar opposite of what the outcome of the process will actually achieve for us.?
Nonetheless they "had the vote & won" and so, irrespective of any facts, they'll continue to demand their prize.
Time to quote from The Boxer, again.:
… For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest…

Re: The next prime minister
But you're ignoring the will of the people. Which makes your a traitor. Brexit will make us great again, even though only 10% of companies are able to continue trading in the event of a no deal brexit.
Johnson will put golliwogs back on jam jars, commission a new series of Love Thy Neighbour and end political correctness because that's gone mad.
Sky Sports and mobile phones will be banned unless you've got a full time job (these are the riches of the poor), you'll need to pass a poverty test before you can use a food bank. Queues at the doctors and hospitals will be organised by skin colour with the darkest at the back and same sex couples will be chemically neutered to prevent them from having any ideas of raising children.
We might even invade the Faroe Islands to prove we're serious about our ambitions to regain the Empire.

Re: The next prime minister
You've got to feel for the Scots.
https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/opini ... HLY6DSl3ME" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Scotland is about to be governed by a new UK Prime Minister elected by 160,000 Tory members, of which only 9,000 are based in Scotland, from a party that hasn’t won a major election in Scotland in 64 years, to deliver a Brexit that 62 per cent of Scotland’s voters rejected.
