Tommy Robinson
I see his supporters are all arguing he's been gagged.
Nope. he was on a suspended sentence. He was warned. He was told if he did it again, he would go to prison.

People don't realise that breaching a court order imposing a restriction on reporting a case can see people go free. In this case men who groomed and raped children could have walked, simply because Robinson wanted his name in the papers.

Re: Tommy Robinson
I don't understand why there are reporting restrictions , I thought courts were places of public record .

Re: Tommy Robinson
There were ongoing investigations and the court didn't want that case and related cases thrown out, otherwise those involved in the child offences could have walked free. So there was a reporting ban.

Re: Tommy Robinson
The reporting restrictions on his case have been lifted.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of contempt of court.

Because he had been arrested and sentenced before for actions which could see these men walk free.Rossgo wrote:Ill be honest i dont get it but unsure how he should be thrown into jail for talking about a bloke who really should have his knackers chopped off and leave bleeding to death

Be clear, Robinson has no interest in the rapists going to jail. It suits him if they don't. He then argue they've been given special treatment.
Robinson is all about Robinson.

Re: Tommy Robinson
Isnt that freedom of speech though? How can he allow this guy to walk free by him reporting the news?Kwacky wrote:Because he had been arrested and sentenced before for actions which could see these men walk free.Rossgo wrote:Ill be honest i dont get it but unsure how he should be thrown into jail for talking about a bloke who really should have his knackers chopped off and leave bleeding to death

I honestly dont know! Might sound stupid!
I remember a situation in Slough going back many years when Iraq 2 all kicked off and a bunch of Muslims had a massive stand in the middle lf town with loud speakers and loads of pictures saying how all Brits were scum and our forces were over there using their people as target practice and, showed pics of kids with their eyeballs poked out and acid burns, etc etc as we tortured them. Really disgusting stuff what they said and showed etc etc. Old bill just walked passed and people were argueing with police but they just walked by.
Is that freedom of speech?
Fair enough about Robinson, dont know enough about him to be honest!

Yep...that's freedom of speech - doesn't mean anyone has to listen to them though.

Re: Tommy Robinson
Because the idiot prejudiced an ongoing investigation/case by spouting his racist bile, an offence in itself.
Its not rocket science.

Which would you prefer?Rossgo wrote: Isnt that freedom of speech though? How can he allow this guy to walk free by him reporting the news?
Robinson breaking the law and rapists going free because of his actions
or
The criminal trial having a reporting ban so the rapists are tried in court?
Sometimes freedom of speech has to be put to one side to allow justice to work.

Re: Tommy Robinson
Yep...."freedom of speech" does not equal "freedom to say whatever-the-fcuk-you-want".
"Fire!" in a movie theater, "Bomb!", etc....fun pranks like that are a no-no.

Re: Tommy Robinson
I have heard that this hearing was for sentencing only there was no jury present that could have been influenced one way or the other .Kwacky wrote:Which would you prefer?Rossgo wrote: Isnt that freedom of speech though? How can he allow this guy to walk free by him reporting the news?

I have seen the live stream he doesn't incite violence or threaten anyone .
He asked police where he was allowed to stand and where he could not and at no time did he stray over those boundaries.
He was arrested for breach of the peace which he did not do , and was charged tried and sentenced for contempt of court in a matter of hours .
This all smacks of summary justice meted out because the man is a pain in the arse to politicians .
