Monkey brain or leadership brain?

Post by Fireball »

Hey guys, which part of your brain is in control? Monkey brain is the part that just gets excited and is controlled by emotions that sends signals to our reptilian brain to fight or jump around like a monkey.

The leadership brain is part of our brian that is totally controlled by intelligence and creativity.

Getting used to using our leadership part of our brain enables us to send the monkey brain to sleep and keep the reptilian part of our brain out of trouble.

I,ve been working on this notion for at least 15 years or so and still haven,t managed to totally kill that bloody monkey in my skull. (lol)

Have any of you ever thought about this to learn about human brain and see how it works? Its an interesting subject and psychology as a whole is a brilliant world in its own right. (rock)

When it comes to emergency situations, due to my training at work (rescue, fire fighting, BA etc) and stepping up to Fire Team leader, I have managed to control the monkey brain. It has come in handy a few times in my private life too when shite has gone pear shaped.

Hey KK....is there anything specific that turns the ON switch??

For myself, I have a metal box for the tools-of-the-trade.....the moment I see it, my gameface goes on (along with all the tools).

Its always the inner feelings and emotions that turn on the monkey switch and its fooking hard to keep off that bloody switch too in order to keep the leadership brain turned on at all times. :^

Dunno. I never really get 'excited'.

'Cept maybe at McDonald's....you know, like when it's 10.55am and the lunch menu is about to start......I get all fidgety & emotional.

It’s just the training. We drill minimum once a week offshore so just of practice. So when a situation comes up you have the knowledge and experience to deal with it. The monkey is still going full tit inside my head.

All that said I’ve only had to deal with 2 real situations in Oil&Gas and they weren’t offshore. We have had a few situations that ended up being false alarms offshore but for 10-15 mins it appeared to be real so that’s when you get to practice your composure. Everyone around you has the same training and composure so it helps a lot.

If we had a full on Piper Alpha incident offshore when guys are dying and explosions everywhere I don’t think I’d still keep the same composure.

Wow...exciting stuff. (rock)

Years ago I studied offshore engineering and when I saw helicopters crashing all the time and incidents happening offshore on the rigs on a regular basis I changed my course and went for a career in manufacturing instead. Mind you all those who remained in that line of work are retired wealthy men now but I,m still searching for the next contract. 8-|

My monkey brain very rarely gets an outing these days ..... Which isn't a bad thing I suppose :D

Stress always bought monkey brain out of the box but since having CHD I avoid stress if at all possible :)
