two of my friends are single, i feel for them over xmas/new year - when i ask if they are ok they just say it's like any other day but i think that's a brave front, you must remember past times/family etc especially with the relentless stuff that the media blasts out, all the hype, one thing after another.

I dunno....I always used to get invites to friend's homes (one year I did 4 xmas dinners in two days!!) and I'd always feel like I was intruding/impinging on people.
I think It's only just like any other day if you allow it to be.

I enjoy it a bit more now the kids are old enough to take to firework displays, as in Aussie you can't buy your own fireworks like you could when I was a kid, so they really enjoy it. The Sydney Harbour fireworks are pretty speccy and they do a 9 pm show for the kids as well, as does the local council at a one of the local parks. We can watch the Harbour one from my hill, but it's 80 km away in a straight line!

TBH I'm not sure what kind of stuff happens on a New Year's Eve anymore.....the bars & pubs are usually shut on a Christmas Eve, and have been for years.....I think they went the same way with New Year's too. I don't drink anymore, so I'm a bit out of the loop on all of that fun atuff.
