Re: WD40 and chains
Good to know, I do exactly as he says at the end of the video, I use WD40 for cleaning along with some proper chain cleaner and then lube it with proper chain lube so nice to know Ive been doing a good job of it haha
Remember: If in Doubt use Full Throttle, It may not make the situation any better, But it will end the suspense...

Re: WD40 and chains
Interesting video.
I use a degreaser to clean the chain, either mucoff or wd40 degreaser, and then a high quality wet lube.
I only use mucoff as it smells like sweets.

Re: WD40 and chains
I'm with Nutz. I love Muc Off products they really do work hard to make the best quality of bike products and do make their stuff smell amazing!!
How unsure about his test here - using WD40 could damage the chain. What if the o rings were left to dry in the open air not just in the test tube. I've heard O rings can expand and deteriorate when using it everytime.
Not that I have never used WD40 to clean the chain. I used to then looked into it and heard only bad things!! Although it does make the chain come up sparkly!!

Re: WD40 and chains
Wd stands for water dispenser, I wouldn't use it on a push bike chain let alone a motorbike
It destroys o rings and any lube

Re: WD40 and chains
SDC cleaner for me for the chain, Spray it on before I clean the bike, wash the bike, then by the time I get to the chain I just spray the crap off with a hand pump washer. Wipe the chain down with some paraffin, dry it and lube up. I've never used WD40. No particular reason, I just prefer to use a proper chain cleaner. I'm probably wasting my money.

"I think WD40 is fine....provided you use it on a rag, and you don't use much. The scrubbing/wiping action is what's really going to get the dirt off".
"How quickly the chain wears/stretches is going to give a pretty good indication of whether you're doing it right or not".

Re: WD40 and chains
I personally use a Green Gremlin chain cleaning tool and specific chain cleaner/degreaser. I have tried Jiz brake cleaner when I've ran out of chain cleaner and it isn't as good.
I clean the chain every month or so (or when it looks dirty) and lube 2-3 times before cleaning. I think I've had the same chain for 2 or 3 years now and it's not needed adjusting in at least 1 year
