Wipe Mobile Phone

Post by Blade »

Some very knowledgeable techy guys on here so thought I would seek some advice.

Just changed mobile phones and going to sell the old model.

What's the best way to wipe all personal data and history?

Is a factory reset good enough or do I need to do more ?

Cheers for any help.

I typically go through all my account deleting them individually
Transfer all data from device to SD card possible then back up SD card on PC
Delete as much as you can manually (apps, saved data, etc)
Go through caches, cookies, browsing etc and delete that.

On Samsungs there's multiple options for deleting data such as passwords etc, do all of those available to you before the main master reset

What model is it?

If it's an android then a factory reset is usually good enough on the more recent models. Some of the older ones were crap at getting rid of data. . Make sure you do it without the sim in and remove the memory card if you added one. If you've got the time and the option I would factory reset, then encrypt your phone, then do another factory reset

Cerberus is very good at wiping your phone if you want to install an app to the do the job for you.

Encryption can take an hour or so.

That's a good question, I usually do a master reset, then go through the set up of the phone again then master reset it again. It's never too bad because I keep my phone until end of contract (typically 18-24months) and then hand to my dad as the phone is in still good working order and he's usually on a budget so it gives him one of the latest phones!

I've never sold a mobile phone after I've finished with it.

Is that what poor people do? (lol)

or does Blade need the money for his new bike? ;)
