Well...are you happier now than you were 30 years ago? 20? 10??

We have to judge these things by some sort of criteria. And I'm sure people would be open to better suggestions if anyone has them.
I know I had it easier than my parents, and in turn they had it easier than theirs, so that's all I can really go by for my own perspective.

there was a time when it took only a mans wage to look after the family , I don't believe that is now an option for most people. it takes the income from both parents to look after the family , so in many respects the standard of living has halved . Add to that the ever increasing amount of personal debt and I would say that we are far worse off in many ways than we used to be . I would like to see the figures for working mothers and juvenile crime rates as I am pretty sure there will be some direct correlation between the two.

In simple terms that's Twice as many people working for half the money, Jack. A capitalists wet dream.

Who knows where it will end but I suspect this year may prove to be one of the most difficult for nearly 40 years.
