Went out for a ride this evening but soon realised I didn't have enough power in my legs for plan A which involved some fairly serious hills, so went for a nice spin as plan B - just under 12 miles in a fairly decent (for me) time of just over an hour. That along with 3 short walks and a few hours of sanding, prepping and painting the floor in the study will do me. :)

Maybe going to the gym when it's so hot and I was tired wasn't a bright idea.

Oh well, the cold shower when I got home managed to limit the length of the headache.

Did some core circuit work followed by boxing. I took it easy and made sure I rested when I started to feel the headache coming on but I'm pleased with how much I managed to do.

Tried my first road run since the half marathon, and my first test to see how my ankle would hold up to a run.

I'm quite pleased, the route was just short of 5 miles and its still quite warm here. Came in at 51:30, which is about where I was when I did my first half marathon. No pain from the ankle and managed to keep a consistent pace throughout the whole route (with the exception of a big bastard hill that slowed me up a bit)

:) :)

Good news about your ankle. That had been playing you up for a while.

That's better. Now, prepare yourself...

I went for a run!

I know, I'd sooner s*** a pineapple than go for a run, but with my fitness test looming and having to reach a higher level than usual in order to avoid doing a Heat Acclimatisation programme for my impending desert trip, I thought I'd best do some training.
So today was Fitness Test Fursday.

My training was supposed to consist of doing some sort of cardio work 3 times a week.

Well, that didn't pan out so well.

I did a grand total of 3 runs in about 4 weeks.

But I also did the compulsory circuits once a week and let's not forget I got about 3 weeks into the Insanity workout a couple of months ago. So perhaps my base fitness level had been raised ever so slightly.

Also, I had my trail running shoes on. These things have got grip coming out the wazoo, they're like the Supercorsas of the trainer world. I don't know if anyone here has done the Multi Stage Fitness Test before (bleep test) but for the last few years grip has been the limiting factor in how far I can get, as you're constantly having to stop, turn and set off in the other direction.

With the trailies on, my possibly increased fitness kicking in and a fellow oldie coming along to try with me, I'm pleased to say I sailed past the green level(bare minimum) and powered through to the light blue level. (The only level higher is dark blue, and that's for nutters and uber-fitness fanatics)

So that's no need for a Heat Acclimatisation program, no need to do another fitness test for a year, and not much guilt when I had two slices of cake at lunchtime!

I also had a McDonald's breakfast wrap one hour before I started. But somebody bought the Maccy D's in for their birthday, I could hardly say no!

I use 'Runkeeper' from the apple store.

It's pretty good. I use it for running, cycling, bush walking and kayaking. With running I've got it feeding back pace every km and run a playlist in the background. Shows you a good speed vs elevation graph.

Cheers kiwi I've installed that, will give it a go on my next run.

Mapmyrun used to work perfectly, its just been getting more and more unreliable as time has passed.

Today I cycled to and from work. I needed to stop off in Kings Heath to just get my new front derailleur adjusted a bit so didn't go straight home and took a loop through Highbury and Cannon Hill Parks which was really nice. Cycled about 22 or 23 miles in total today and also went for a walk at lunchtime. Totally justified the tea and cake I had when I got in! :D

Managed an hour of core and circuit training with 15 mins boxing/pad work at the end. The boxing was tough. But it was good to do some of the stuff I was doing before the headaches came on.

That sounds good mate. How are the headaches? Are they easing off a bit then?

Good to hear you feel like you can start building it back up.

I still get the headaches but I'm learning the warning signals so I can back off a bit. It doesn't stop them but they are less severe if they do come on.

Easy day today - 8 miles of walking (6 and a half of them with a sack of spuds in my back pack) and 9 miles of cycling.
