Two films for the first book.
There are 6 books. You could compress the other books on to a film for each one. Dune needs to be detailed, it really sets the scent.

Yeah...the article I read, the director (I think) expressed some doubts about the feasibility of the later books transposing well into a film format. I only ever read the first novel, so I'm not familiar with the whole progression of the story. I thought the original book was a bit of a snooze-fest, to be perfectly honest.
