What a testament to the safety of those cars and the overalls.

The force of the impact was recorded at 53G.

He left the track at 140mph.

53G.....???
That doesn't make sense .....that's way beyond the sort of force that liquifies internal organs & other nasty stuff.

Oh well.....either way, someone upstairs was definitely watching out for him today.

The drivers are surrounded by a safety monocoque to protect them.

His car was chopped in half and it did this to the barrier

I am astonished that he walked away from that mainly because it split the car in 2 and engulfed him in fire.

Properly restrained the human body is capable of withstanding incredible G forces, back before computer modelling a brave volunteer was required...

He's being kept in overnight with minor burns to his wrists and ankles.

I bet his head is all over the place. It took him 20 seconds to get out of the car.

That barrier could have chopped his head off.

Lucky lucky boy.

Indeed very lucky boy!

Listening to some drivers, " This just shows how much we put our life on the line" Well my answer to that is if you feel you are putting your life on the line, then do something else. Its not as if you are being forced, and doing it for love!!! What a thing to bring up when talking about this incident.

There are people who put their life on the line for far less and with much less safety.....

Everyone at the scene is saying he'd have been killed instantly without it. Plus he's very lucky not to have been knocked out, can't see how they would have got him out of the fire in time if he'd been unconscious.

I don't think they could have got him out. One of the attending marshals seems a bit surprised to see the driver emerging from the flames.

Absolutely agree....if he'd just have phrased that a little differently it would've been so much more positive.
"30 years ago that crash would've been fatal, look how far driver safety has come since, etc."
