Audi E-tron GT
Now doubting how stunning some of the latest electric car designs are. I guess not having the same dynamics as a petrol or diesel engine enables them to design differently.

Yep...they have an electric SUV that was on the news awhile back. Not sure if it was a concept or production car though.

Re: Audi E-tron GT
So looks like 2021 will be handed to the customers. That's crazy, never knew Audi were that far in electric cars to be honest. The price tag is far to hefty though. A lot more work has to go into electric cars, how do us who live in flats charge their cars over night, mileage on a tank etc etc. Still not the worlds saviour yet

Oh...it'll find a niche among the well-heeled Greenpeace crowd, I'm sure...then the technolgy will eventually trickle-charge down to the flat-bound riff-raff.

Re: Audi E-tron GT
Don't you think that, unlike Internal combustion engined vehicles, their desirability as a second-hand purchase will be seriously impacted by the cost of replacement battery packs.?D41 wrote:Oh...it'll find a niche among the well-heeled Greenpeace crowd, I'm sure...then the technolgy will eventually trickle-charge down to the flat-bound riff-raff.
I think I'm sticking out for hydrogen gas conversion kits for existing vehicles.

I tend to think that many, if not most, people who buy used cars can't afford them anyway...no matter what they have under the hood.

Don't worry about it. They'll eventually make sure only the rich can afford to own a car.

Worn out batteries is no different to worn out internal combustion engines.
In fact it’s easier to replace a battery pack than it is an ICE.

Re: Audi E-tron GT
A lot of electric vehicles have bonded batteries meaning the car has to be thrown away if the battery fails.

Re: Audi E-tron GT
Really.. the Outlander has a modular battery system, so if one cell fails only that cell needs to be replaced.Cav wrote:A lot of electric vehicles have bonded batteries meaning the car has to be thrown away if the battery fails.
How would that with with battery leasing schemes? From what I understood if you please the battery and it falls below 75% then they replaced the battery..

Re: Audi E-tron GT
GM and a few others are looking at other uses for their batteries after they fall below that 75-80% "minimum".....storing power from wind turbines, powering low-draw applications, etc.
Right now it's estimated that there's not really enough older electric vehicles out there for it to be worth bothering with.

Teslas are single cell batteries to so they can be replaced individually.
Nice article here on busting the electric car myths. I would put my money on the fact that in 10 years time the majority of new cars sold will be electric.

Re: Audi E-tron GT
There was an article I read the other day which was referenced. I checked out a few of them and they seemed genuine.
I now can't find the article and I'm struggling to remember which cars had irreplaceable batteries which sounds like a total cop out. If I get time I'll do some more digging but for now I'm working on my CV
